Notorious gambler Jack no longer gets a buzz from the risks he takes at the card table. In fact it bores him. Until one night he wins more than he ever bargained for…

His prize is stunning Cara Taylor – she might be down on her luck but she certainly doesn’t need rescuing by a card-shark like Jack! Now she’s stuck with him she doesn’t know whether to love him or loathe him.

Review

Cara Taylor has spent the last years of her life working to provide for her family. She travels to Nice to work in a new casino with the promise of a big, fat bonus that will pay for her mother’s home owners insurance and her brother’s therapy for several months. There is a saying that “if something seems too good to be true, it probably is” and unfortunately for Cara, this applies to her only too well. When she is asked to throw a game so that the house wins, she tries but just can’t. Not being able to throw the game changes her whole life.

Jack Wolfe enters into the exclusive card game in Nice out of boredom. He has nothing better to do. The game has the added bonus of taking some money from the casino owner, a man whom Jack doesn’t care for. He is instantly attracted to the gorgeous croupier and finds himself playing more attention to her than to the game. It doesn’t hurt his gambling though and he still wins the huge jackpot on the hand that Cara was supposed to throw.  Jack comes to her rescue when the casino owner shows Cara, with a slap, just how displeased he is with her.

These two have chemistry, but do not get along in the beginning. Cara thinks that Jack is just a playboy and a gambler. After escaping from the casino owner, Bobby, they work together to ensure their liberty. I found it very engaging to read their mutual efforts for each other despite the fact they remained strangers.

Their relationship progresses as they spend time together in London. However, Cara always feels as if it is all pretend. Jack tells her about his family and admits that he can’t be trusted or relied on for anything. They must both decide if they can be more than they have ever thought they could be and they both must overcome events in their past to make way for the future.

The Man with the Money moves at a quick pace and is fantastically written. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. The reader is taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions. The setting is varied and described brilliantly. This story is part of a mini-series but can be read alone. I’ve read the others and I love how each book reveals just a little more about the notorious Wolfes.
This story is perfect for those readers who like their men alpha and their women strong.
