Christmas has never brought out the best in the MacDougal family. Still, year after year, they gather together in the Blue Ridge Mountains to try to make the season merry and bright. But this year is an especially strained one, with Shayne's impending divorce, Morwenna's slavish devotion to work and Bobby's reluctance to face what life has to offer. They've never felt less like a family.

Then, in the midst of a snowy sibling shouting match, a mysterious stranger appears. He could be a criminal, a madman—or something far more unexpected. Despite their fears and the growing danger in the dark woods around them, the MacDougals take a leap of faith. But when another stranger arrives on the mountainside, they don't know which of them to believe. One of these men can't be trusted. And one is about to bring Christmas into their hearts.

Review

A story for those who love Christmas and believe in mysterious ways…

This story was a shock to me. A shock because it wasn’t the story I expected, and the author does such a good job of weaving in little details that, by the end, made me go, “Wow!”

I really enjoyed this tale as I followed not one, but three members of the MacDougal family. All three protagonists—Shayne, Bobby, and Morwenna—suffer from different emotional issues and problems. The three siblings are trying to have a holiday without dwelling on their issues when they find a man in a snowdrift outside their cabin.

The family doesn’t shy away from the chance to help, and as Christmas draws closer, this mysterious stranger begins offering his own thoughts and help to the family in ways no one expected. The holiday appears brighter, until a cop shows up with no identification hollering their stranger is not who he appears to be. With no way to tell who is telling the truth, the MacDougal’s hold both men at a distance. The threat of another snowstorm and other problems that arise, give way to the fact that one of these men is out to hurt them and the other is there to help, but which one?

As I like being honest about the books I read, this is my first Heather Graham tale. I loved it, and there really wasn’t a huge romantic element—there was no need for one. The emotions of the MacDougal siblings cover enough heartache. I was left in awe at the balance between the siblings, as Graham did an amazing job at giving each one a story that felt complete at the conclusion of the book. All of the characters are real to life. I really enjoyed how Graham depicted people who were generally good at heart, but still dealt with the ethical struggles that are born from the crimes that occur in society today. This book is also an easy read, as the dialogue and situations flow seamlessly together. I had this one wrapped in a little under four hours.

If you are looking for a story that will touch your heart and show the magic of Christmas then An Angel for Christmas is a sure win. This story does have Christianity and faith elements, so for those who are looking for a regular Christmas time romance this may not be the story for you.
