COURTING DANGER

Lady Evelyn Darlington’s first love was the law. But since a woman scholar meets nothing but ridicule from men, she has given up and chosen a future husband. Randolph seems adequate for the task: to provide intelligent conversation and not annoy her too much. Of course, before they can be engaged, she’ll have to do something about the murder charge hanging over his head. If only London’s top barrister wasn’t Jack Harding, object of all her unattainable girlhood fantasies…

AND SEDUCING SCANDAL…

Jack Harding remembers Evelyn well—but the idea that the gorgeous woman standing before him is little Evie, the professor’s daughter, is incredible. He knows better than to enter a business relationship when he wants to pursue pleasure. Yet however desirable she is now, Evie is still Evie—stubborn, smart, and never willing to take no for an answer. Even though proving her fiancé’s innocence might just cost her her own…

Review

Tina Gabrielle’s pens a sexy and sweet historical romance full of intrigue, murder, and true love.

Lady Evelyn Darlington turns to an old pupil of her father’s when her soon-to-be fiancé is accused of murder. Randolph Dawson is on the run from the law after finding his cousin and acclaimed actress, Bess Whitfield, dead in her apartment. Randolph escapes out the window and now Bow Street is looking for him. Jack Harding feels an instant attraction for Evie. She agrees to help her because he owes her father his career, but he really doesn’t want to help the man who will marry Evie.

The chemistry and tension between Evie and Jack is fantastic. From their first encounter there is a palpable attraction between the two. As a child Evie had a crush on Jack (a fact that he is aware of) and her feelings haven’t completely gone away. Evie tries to stay true to her commitment to Randolph, but the feelings between her and Jack prove to be too strong.

I loved these two as a couple. They balance each other out very well. I really liked how Evie didn’t just sit on the sidelines; she tried to help Jack solve the mystery of who killed Bess Whitfield.  The mystery is a great plot and moves the story (and romance) along at a quick pace. There are just enough suspects to keep it a mystery and yet no overwhelm the romance. The writing is excellent and the banter between Evie and Jack clever and entertaining.

I will definitely be reading more by Tina Gabrielle and recommend In the Barrister’s Chambers for any fan of the historical romance.
