Rush of Pleasure
Rhyannon Byrd
Heat Level: 4 (Hot)

Dangerous passion and primal instincts…

With his sinister good looks, Noah Winston is the one man— a human with Casus ties—who Willow Broussard has never been able to resist. Once enemies, then lovers, Noah broke her heart. Yet the powerful witch and paranormal private investigator can't turn him away when he needs her help in protecting his family, him—and the world—against their enemy…

As Noah and Willow work together, the secrets of their turbulent past are slowly exposed, each startling revelation drawing them closer. But when the enemy finally makes a move, Noah will need more than witchcraft and magic to survive. He'll need his friends, one hell of a plan and the undying devotion of a tenacious witch whose love is eternal…

Sometimes even the most carefully laid plans are doomed for failure.

Noah Winston is a man on a mission to stop the Casus, evil beings that Noah’s family is linked to by blood ancestry. He’s found that he can’t do everything by himself and seeks the help from the Chastain witches, which can lead the way for his salvation and the world’s. But one witch, Willow Broussard, is the unknown denominator in his plan. He’s just going to work with her, nothing more. Yet, the closer they get the harder it is not to succumb to a primal act that could ruin everything.

Willow remembers Noah as the handsome young boy she couldn’t resist, and he broke her heart. Now he’s back and needs help. Willow wants to refuse, but selfish isn’t one of her character traits. Reluctant agreement is the best she can offer, though it appears that Noah wants a lot more than just a travel partner with resources. Her emotions and abilities are put to the test as the pair attempt to stop the evil plots of the Casus and their deadly leader.  As the danger increases, passion explodes.

It’s bad when you come in at the middle of a series and even worse to come in at the end. This is the last book in Rhyannon Byrd’s Primal Instincts series, and the only one I have read. That being said my biggest and only issue was the neat and tidy ending served up rather simply. I hate to say that I saw it coming, but I did… the whole thing.

The romance, tension, and other elements of the story were great. There are plenty of interesting moments and a few surprises; including some hot and heavy romantic entanglements.

I loved the cast of secondary characters and immediately spotted a few I’d love to learn more about. The complex world that is a part of the Primal Instinct series is easy to follow, as Byrd does an excellent job of sticking to the main portions that deal directly with the book’s plot. I will admit there are a lot of details that I am still fuzzy about, but this book can stand on its own. Plus, there is an added bonus—a glossary, so that first time readers can discover and learn about the separate elements that were mentioned, but not divulged upon.

Overall this book wrapped up the series nice and neat. If you’re an avid fan then you will enjoy getting to Noah’s story. If you’re new to the series then this is a great start, but I recommend reading the rest of the series as well.
