Review

That Old Black Magic is a wonderful ending to the Living in Eden series by Michelle Rowen.

When That Old Black Magic starts, it’s been a month since the demon Darrak possessed Eden Riley. They’ve been through a lot, but are still going strong. Eden is determined to find a way to break the curse placed on Darrak and he’s trying to keep her from tapping into her dark magic.
I really liked the way the story picked up where the last book left off. There was no time elapsed in between the books. Darrak and Eden were still trying to find their way with him possessing her at night and not being able to fulfill their desire for each other without damaging Eden’s soul.

The action in That Old Black Magic moves quickly and a lot happens to the couple. Darrak and Eden have to endure a lot and almost lose each other before the end. I was happy that there is a definite resolution to the story. Darrak and Eden get their hard earned happily ever after. There are lots of secondary characters and even *most* of those get a happily ever after.

My main problem with the book was that even though Darrak and Eden go through a lot, nothing ever seemed to impact the couple in a significant way. They went through the good things and the bad without ever showing much emotion. I felt that both of the characters would have reacted differently in the previous books. There was just something flat about Darrak and Eden in The Old Black Magic. Darrak wasn’t as sexy and flirty as he had been in the previous books and Eden seemed to be colder and less excitable.

That Old Black Magic is a great ending to a series, but was a little lacking in oomph.
