Heat Level: Sensual Rating: Ascension - Meljean Brook When vampires begin disappearing from a community protected by Guardian Marc Revoire, the world-weary warrior doesn’t know whether he’s hunting a demon or one of the bloodthirsty nosferatu — but he’d rather face either of those monsters than accept help from Radha, the irreverent, blue-skinned, and oft-naked Guardian who’d once loved him and left him. He won’t be able to persuade her to leave this time, however, because lighthearted Radha is on a deadly serious mission of her own: not just to help Marc save the community…but to save him. ReviewAngel’s Wolf by Nalini Singh Archangel Nimra runs the Louisiana territory with deadly force but she might be losing control when someone from her court tries to poison her. She seeks advice from Raphael and he enlists his wounded vampire Noah to go down to the swamp to help her. Noah has just been through hell and back. Captured and tortured, he is no longer the man he uses to be and he believes he has been cast aside until he meets Nimra. He is glad to be of use to her but his alpha tendencies prove to be a bit much for Nimra. Together, they fight to have control and discover who is behind the betrayal. I’m always glad to return back to the Guild Hunters and this short addition brings joy. Noah is a sexy vampire who stands his own against a superior angel. I find it refreshing that Nimra give into her “human” emotions and let Noah be the man in their relationship. My only problem is that the mystery behind her demise took a backburner to their relationship. Rating: 4
Alpha Origins by Ilona Andrews Karina has agreed to carpool with her friends to a field trip for their children’s outing. She has a car full of screaming kids and when one of them needs to use the restroom, she takes the nearest exit and goes to the closet place. As soon as she enters, she realizes her mistake and is thrust into a full out brawl. She and the kids are kidnapped by shifters and will not be allowed to go home. Lucas needs Karina’s blood to fight the venom in his system that causes him pain. He refuses to let Karina or her daughter go as long as she remains at the compound and he can feed off of her. He makes a deal to return the other children as long as she remains as his slave. He is not the type of man to ask but Karina’s determined and strong willed spirit makes him think twice and he comes to respect her. Karina is not sure of the world that she has just stepped into but she can no longer leave. She has been injected with poison and needs Lucas as much as he needs her. The two grow fond of each other as they fight off the bad guys. I’m partial to liking this story because the characters develop their feelings slowly but there is no real passion between them. I think they should have acted on their emotions but they kept that hidden from each other until the end. Rating: 4 Nocturne by Sharon Shinn Moriah is a woman on the run. She has many secrets and she is tired of holding them in. She takes a position at a school and soon discovers that there is a secret that is hidden there. Moriah learns that there is a blind angel hiding out in the Great House on the property. She slowly makes her way to the house to find out why Corban is at the school instead of the angel’s hold. Rating: 3 Ascension by Meljean Brook Marc Revoire, Guardian of the vampires, doesn’t know why vampires are suddenly going missing. He is more determined to find out what is going on but he is side tracked when his former flame, Radha, reappears offering him help. Marc doesn’t trust Radha and is bitter from their past. He refuses to accept her help but she is not backing down. She knows she has to work hard to gain his trust and even harder to find a way back into his heart. The world in which the author describes is fascinating. The characters are interesting and diverse. I just wished it was longer because I would have loved to learn more about the world and the people. Rating: 3 Reviewed by Samantha | ||||||
