Review
A predictable love story with some surprising moments…
Gregori Holstein is the leading man when it comes to marketing and making women feel special. He knows how to get what he wants, and religiously follows the vampire mission statement by not feeding from or harming humans. When vampire’s existence is blown wide by a video on the internet, Gregori is selected to represent the vampire community with the United States government. Unfortunately for him, he can’t keep his eyes or mind off the president’s daughter.
Being a president’s daughter isn’t easy, and Abigial Tucker could care less about the spotlight, and extra perks. She only cares about saving her mother’s life. When the existence of vampires is presented to her in the form of sexy playboy Gregori, she has a hard time deciding whether to trust him or fall deliciously into his arms. Throw in a secret mission into China for some exotic plants, and there’s a recipe for disaster or a National security issue.
Alright, I really enjoyed the characters. Loved Gregori and Abigail, as both were thought out and fun to read. Yet, the romance/relationship conflicts were so easily resolved and obvious to readers. Sparks spoon fed the conflicts that would arise between the two, which killed the story for me. Then the conflicts were easily resolved within the romance and the entire story, which made me question the purpose for the story entirely. I won’t go into details, as I like to remain spoiler free, but let me say that there should have been more in my opinion. By the end of the book I really wanted to know more about the secondary characters, and I felt that Gregori and Abigail were somehow wronged by the telling of their story.
Now, the redeeming parts include the steamy romance between the pair, and a couple of exciting moments and twists that take part on the excursion to China. The writing is good, and there is still plenty of humor and action which fans of Spark’s series are sure to enjoy. Also, Sparks did an excellent job of introducing her world. So first time readers won’t have a problem keeping up, and will probably be tempted to peruse the backlist of books from this series.
Overall, I felt this book was a little too neat and tidy for me, but if you enjoy Sparks’s characters and have a love for Gregori you may not be disappointed.
