Utanapishtim has paid dearly for the sin of creating the vampire race—imprisoned in a living death for centuries, driven to near madness. With a single white-hot glance, he immolates his descendants…and the vampire Armageddon begins.

Beautiful and deadly Brigit Poe, not wholly vampire but fiercely loyal to that shared bloodline, is called into action. She abhors yet cannot deny her destiny: to vanquish the once-great king of the immortals and save the vampire race.

Two warriors, equally matched in power and determination, are soon locked in an unwinnable battle, only to discover a passion so shocking it threatens every truth they've ever known—even as they must face one final battle that seems fated to end in death and heartbreak for them both.

Review

This book, Twilight Fulfilled, is the follow up to Twilight Prophecy. Where the first book was the story of the male twin, James, this novel is the story of the female twin, Brigit. The siblings are one-fourth vampire and are on a mission to save the vampires of the United States from being annihilated. Part of Brigit’s assignment is to kill an immortal named Utana who is actually the Biblical Noah and the father of the vampire race. He was raised from a living death by Brigit’s brother, James.

Utana believes it is his duty to eradicate the vampire race he created in order to appease the gods. He’s convinced that he was subjected to a form of death for thousands of years in punishment for creating the vampires. In this living death, he was aware of his surroundings but in sensory deprivation and his remains and soul were imprisoned in a statue.

Brigit finds herself in a battle to the death with Utana  and later realizes that he could have killed her many times but did not. Puzzled by her feelings for the man and curious why he didn’t kill her, she follows him and spies him with a person she presumes is a good Samaritan when she sees the man take Utana to a hotel and provide him with a chance to shower and change clothes.

Eventually, Brigit realizes Utana is in the hands of a government agent and that agent has a nefarious scheme to destroy the rest of the vampire race in the United States, using Utana’s powers. Brigit is determined to save her friends and family and tries to convince Utana that it’s not his destiny to destroy the race he created.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. The story is well written and exciting. It captured my attention from the very beginning and I read it very quickly. Utana, the hero, is to die for. Ms. Shayne did a wonderful job describing his magnificence and I want him for myself. He sounds like a dream man. He did seem a bit emotional but how would you feel if your soul had been imprisoned for eons? I mean, really, he had the right to be emotional, right?

The one thing that I didn’t really like about the book was that the villain was over the top evil. It didn’t seem as if he had any redeeming characteristics. I like my villains to have at least a little bit of humanity in them. One other thing that bothered me was the fact that we, as the reader, learn to really hate the villain and we’re kind of cheated over his comeuppance. I wanted that part to be more satisfying. But I’m quibbling, really. This was a spectacular tale and I highly recommend it.
