Joceline Perry is a young paralegal with a child. She’s never been married and has told everyone that the father of her child was killed in action overseas. She has a secret she doesn’t want to reveal.
Jon Blackhawk is a federal officer and Joceline works for him. His mother is interfering in his life and would love for him to marry one of the women that she keeps trying to set him up with. He has no interest in marriage.
Jon’s brother’s first wife and child were murdered and Jon has been threatened himself due to the type of work he does. Joceline and her child are also threatened due to their proximity to Jon.
This book was slow out of the gate. It didn’t seem like much happened for the first one hundred pages. The pacing dragged and the story line was confusing. There were many secondary characters that contributed to the confusion in my mind. There was a lot of back story that seemed disjointed and incoherent.
The romance itself was the most compelling part of the story but it strained credulity that the hero was thirty and a virgin. The love making scenes were good.
The suspense was not really suspenseful; rather, it was confusing and the characters seemed to believe things too rapidly and make huge leaps and assumptions. I was disappointed in how quickly things were resolved.
The last fifty pages introduced new characters and a lot of irrelevant details. The ultimate culprit confessed too easily and for no reason. There was no pressure put on this person to confess, rather, it just came out of nowhere. It was a disappointing denouement.
I regret to say that I can’t recommend this one.
