Loving the previous books in the “Sweet” series and enjoying Cole’s appearances in them I was really looking forward to his book. I was so disappointed with the story. It didn’t feel like a real romance to me and was lacking the magic that was present in the previous books.

Ren was Cole’s first love and the one he can’t forget. When he sees her again he knows that he would do anything to have her. This is where my problems started. Ren is in a relationship. It’s a good relationship and she is happy. None of that really matters to Cole, he just wants her. He meets with Ren’s master, Lucas, and together they work out a deal – without Ren’s input.

The master and submissive relationship makes it possible for Lucas to give Ren to Cole for two weeks. Both men treat Ren as an object or possession. They both adore her and take care of her, but she isn’t consulted about the plan for her to spend time with Cole. Lucas leaves her there and she isn’t sure where she stands with him, she feels abandoned. I had trouble with the men not finding out how she felt about it before deciding her fate. (Which I understand is part of the lifestyle the characters lived)

Ren felt flat to me. She doesn’t have much of a personality for more than half the book. She follows what Lucas and then Cole sets forth for her. It isn’t until the end of the book that we see the fire and strength that both Lucas and Cole say they are attracted to. I know that part of her acquiescence is due to her submissive nature, but I just couldn’t relate to any woman who didn’t throw a fit when the man she loves gives her to another man.

Most of my feelings of disappointment stem from the ending. If you don’t like spoilers stop reading now!

Ren is in love with both Cole and Lucas and doesn’t want to choose between them. Cole lets her return to Lucas and Ren is heartbroken. Then once again BOTH men go behind her back and try to figure out a way for her to be with both of them. They decide to all live together with both men worshiping and taking care of Ren. I just couldn’t reconcile the two men being okay with this situation. They were both dominate men and strong. They would have a hell of a time sharing the one woman they loved. We aren’t really shown how they adjust and I think that would have helped. The prologue flashes forward to them living happily ever after. I just couldn’t buy it.

What I really wanted was for Cole to have a woman that was his. A woman that loved him more than anyone else and that he could love however he wanted to. I didn’t feel that happen in Sweet Addiction.

If you are looking for a hot story with lots of romance by Maya Banks I would suggest Sweet Persuasion.
