Lucy Delacourt’s life is nothing but easy. After the sudden death of her parents and the loss of their family home, she drops out of school and moves to New York to start over and pay off her student loans. Her dreams of becoming a lawyer may be squashed for the moment but Lucy can’t give up. She takes a temp position at Hamilton Industries to help pay the bills.
The job might be crappy but the one highlight is the sexy and dark man who enters the elevator at the same time every morning. It starts off innocent but Lucy slowly realizes she wants a piece of her fantasy man. She gets her chance when she is suddenly left alone with her dream man. The sexual intimacy they share in the elevator that day leaves her shaken and soon Lucy is pulled into a crazy and sensual affair with the boss of the company.
Jeremiah Hamilton is a powerful billionaire who is never denied anything he wants and what he wants is Lucy completely under him. He sees a quiet beauty in her so he offers her a job as his personal assistant to do anything that he wants. Once Lucy agrees, he takes her away to Paris where they are both thrown into a dark game of passion, deceit and lies.
For some reason I liked this story. Lucy is innocent enough for me and normally she would drive me crazy but her insecurities and inexperience makes her endearing. I’m not sure if I buy the fact that she agrees to be his “personal assistant” and goes off with him to Paris after knowing him for only two days but I’ll go with it. Hey, I’m reading another story about a rich CEO who has a wicked dark side, so who am I to judge!
Since this was originally released in installments, the story flows awkwardly. The chapters start and end like installments that the publisher just pushed together. There is a lot happening in a two week period that is confusing. There is an assassin attempt and crazy family members the author throws in. The story could have been fleshed out better with more background story and better character development.
There is little resolution to Lucy and Jeremiah’s relationship. While they did bond during their time in Paris there is something missing. The cliffhanger at the end of the book didn’t help to calm that feeling. Of course, I’ll be waiting for the next book to come out. Hopefully, the author will take time to develop the story more and close some of the gaps from this book.
