After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon's Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father's wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she's not thrilled…even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC….

Review

Parker Welles is broke… that’s right, dead broke thanks to her dearest dad. Her father’s caught in insider trading, the trust fund is gone, and her best-selling books ‘The Holy Rollers’ have all their profits wrapped up in the Save the Children charity. Luckily her son is going on a summer vacation with his dad, Ethan and wife, Lucy. Parker’s only other saving grace is a summer home her aunt left her, she needs to sell it—fast! It’s no awesome beach house and the only person willing to help her fix it up is her father’s lackey, Nick.

Nick is… well, Nick is infatuated with Parker Welles. Call it lust. Call it desire. Call it attraction. Either way, whatever name, Nick finds himself constantly drawn to this woman who weathers all storms, but no matter what he does Parker won’t give him a chance. He doesn’t compare to the paragon Ethan and is basically cast as a stooge to Parker’s father. But Nick’s not willing to give up, nor does he break promises to his employer. He’s going to help Parker whether she wants his assistance or not and prove that he’s more than worthy of her love.

Nick and Parker—what a pair! These two are amazing together, especially with conflict and tension pouring off their backs in waves. Get both of them in Maine, living in a house—more like a shack, and half-naked all the time. Whoo! Let’s just things are a bit smexy. Plus there are plenty of fun antics including a wild cousin Lavinia, and 6 derby likened angels running around in Parker’s head. Never mind the secrets these two are holding about their childhood nor their first detailed encounter years prior, it takes just about everything to get to an HEA.

My dislikes:  a neat and tidy ending with a typical misunderstanding sans communication being the cause of the darkest moment in the book, and a few times when I wanted Nick to step it up. Nick is definitely not an alpha, but I just thought he should speak up for something instead of falling back into a hole when faced with real confrontation.

Overall, a decent book with some interesting characters, and for those who have read Higgins work before then you’ve probably been wondering what happened to the other woman in Ethan’s life.
