Losing control is just the beginning...

"What would you do if the sexiest man in the world was bent on bringing you unbearable pleasure again and again? Joy Hightower wasn't sure she could survive the experience...or live without it."

It's not often you're hired to paint a body tattoo--and what a body--on a total stranger at a Hollywood film set. A reserved and careful art teacher, Joy would never forget it. In a rare fit of raw desire she gave herself completely, knowing she'd never see him again, or ever repeat such a shameless, naked impulse.

Little did she know, the man with whom she shared that lightning bolt of lust was star Everett Hughes. For Everett, women and sex came as easily as fame. But how could he hope to convince the guarded Joy that beneath the hard body and sexy façade of celebrity was a real man who wanted only one, real woman?

In the heat of an intoxicating affair, Everett endeavors to break down her barriers, gain her trust, and expose himself as the real deal. But can Joy do the same, and reveal to him the vulnerable woman who longs to be loved, wanted, and desired forever?

Review

My first Beth Kery book kept my interest engaged, by breaths short, and my fingers couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

The page turning ended up being a tell-tale sign that I was searching for action and that means I’m not happy or I’m looking for something I can’t predict. This book couldn’t get a 5 because I could predict every twist and turn of the story. There were no surprises. I knew how Everett and Joy would react in different situations, and was especially familiar with all of Joy’s mannerisms and personal issues. From and internal conflict standpoint there wasn’t anything fabulous.

From a smexy, holy moley-it’s-hot-in-here standpoint this book was wowza. Kery immersed me in visual imagery. I felt like I was experiencing the whole thing in sensory overload. This novel is super erotic and explores a lot of things in the bedroom. So I caution those who aren’t a fan of seeing women or men tied up and interesting sexual positions. If you’ve experience a Kery novel before then you know her writing is no holds barred, and will bare a character’s soul.

Now for characters: Everett is the hero you want in public. He’s polite, engaging, and attentive. I loved how he did everything he could to make Joy comfortable and tend to her every need without smothering her. In the bedroom Everett is a dominate. Through his sexual interactions with Joy he seeks to convince her to open up to him, by making their encounters as intimate as possible. Like Joy, I can’t say I would be too happy with this kind of thing at the onset of a relationship.

This leads me to my favorite scene: After Joy and Everett make love for the first time, Joy confronts him about his desires in the bedroom.

“You overwhelm me.”

He nodded and reached for his shirt. He was angry with himself for pushing her, but dammit, he had wanted to move her, to reach her, to touch her in more than the surface sense. That’d been the reason he’d made love to her the way he did. Joy clearly was formidable fortress, but she wasn’t entirely impregnable.

Tonight had shown him that.

He felt raw and confused. Irritated. The experience had rattled him as well as Joy. The only reason he was leaving was that she appeared to be even more exposed and bewildered by what had happened between them than he was.

I like that little bit because Everett is so in tune with his emotions. That part of Everett is extremely likable. I couldn’t get enough of his dialogue and cutting through the bullshit. He’s good at getting under Joy’s skin and at the same time respecting her space.

Overall, there’s just good character interaction and all out smexy that makes this book a good read. The predictable plot can easily be read and passed on for the chance of seeing these two fall in love through interaction inside the bedroom and out. I’ll be checking out more Kery books in the future.
