Review

Sage Presley has to get back home. Her grandmother is selling the Presley’s ranch to some stranger. Sage has to stop her “Grand” from selling the only place that they have ever called home. When she gets to the ranch, she is greeting by a sexy cowboy and the ugliest dog she has ever seen. Her Grand has left to visit her sister and a storm is rapidly approaching.

Creed Riley just wants a bit of peace and the Rockin’ C Ranch is the perfect place. He is so close to becoming the owner but a feisty, tall and curvy woman is about to put a wrench in his plans. Sage and Creed are stuck together in a blizzard and Creed is going to take the opportunity to convince her to back off of her plans to stop her grandmother. The more they are together, the more he just wants to make her happy…even if it means letting go of the ranch.

I like a sweet cowboy story but this one lacked the drama. The plot is too cut dry. The characters are complex in the fact that they have issues…well I should say that Sage has issues. Her parents had died and she is afraid to lose people and things that she loves which is her main reason for wanting to keep the ranch. She doesn’t want her Grand to leave her and move up North. Slowly, with the help of Creed, Sage warms up to the idea that she will be okay at the ranch without her grandmother. Creed on the other hand is too perfect. I wanted to carve him out of the book for myself. I couldn’t find a real flaw with him and in the end he became one dimensional to me.

I’m not a fan of pets but the ugly stray dog and a new litter of stray cats help add to the story. Sage slowly opens her heart to them as she tries to care for them. In the long run, she also finds herself opening up herself to Creed. Of course, a few side characters add to the mix and I can’t help but wonder what will happen to some of them.

This is just an endearing and warm holiday read. The perfect book to read while curled up on a sofa.
