Review
Ah, the danger of the high sea, an ever enticing aspect of history and one that still prevails today, though less often. For Lady Alyson, the seas voyage full of surprises and discoveries, including a future prince, pirate attack, near death and hostage captivity. Though, to find who befalls these fates will require your exploration of the book.
Captain Jake Maxwell is known as the wolf of the sea. When commissioned by the King to follow the prince’s secret transport, he finds Alyson and quickly saves her from a dangerous situation. Of course, it’s not long before sparks fly and ignite into pleasures and deep passion. Unfortunately her connection to the prince’s dangerous fate leaves her in danger as well. In a game of intrigue and dangerous chance, Jake and Alyson play to win and survive or else lose their chance at being together forever.
There is much more than meets the eye in this historical romance. Amidst a romance of forbidden nature, lies an evil scheme including an abduction and threat to the throne. Both Jake and Alyson have much to focus on, given their situation, but only have eyes for each other which put them both in grave danger. With a traitor lurking among them and evil on the loose, Jake has quite the task ahead of him and his biggest distraction in front of him, threatening everything and yet worth anything at the same time.
Ms. Scotts writing is impressive and easy to get hooked on. If you’re not already craving a Scottish man, you will be by the time you’re done reading this one. Lines like the following make the hero irresistible.
“Sweetheart, there is much more to discover, and we’ll explore every possibility together.”
The characters are well developed and weaved together in a believable manner. It’s not easy to see who you can trust in this novel with makes it even more exciting to read. Passion aside, this novel is full of action and intrigue. Add the passion into the mix and there is something for every highland lover. I thoroughly enjoyed this Scottish novel. It was a step outside my norm and I definitely look forward to reading more.
