"When a Chattan male falls in love, strike his heart with fire from above..."

They call him Lord Lyon, proud, determined— and cursed. He is in need of a bride, but if he falls in love, he dies. His fervent hope is that by marrying— and having a son—without love, perhaps he can break the curse's chains forever.

Enter beautiful Thea Martin—a duke's headstrong, errant daughter and society's most brilliant matchmaker. Years ago, she and Lyon were inseparable, until he disappeared from her life without a word. Now she is charged with finding Lyon's bride—a woman he cannot love for a man Thea could love too well.

Series: The Chattan Curse (Book 1)

Review

An ancient curse, more than 200 years old, has left the Chattan men with a deathly fate, literally.  Those males of Chattan blood who dare to risk falling in love are doomed to die a horrible death.  Lord Lyon, Neal Chattan, hopes to break the curse by marrying without love and fathering an heir.  To do this Lyon hires a matchmaker’s services upon recommendation from his solicitor but is surprised to find out the matchmaker is Thea, a woman from his past whom he abandoned due to the curse.

Thea is the widowed mother of two sons and is shocked to find herself hired to make a match for her childhood friend. When Neal requests a woman of substantial worth who would make a good mother and is well liked by everyone except her husband, Thea is disturbed and confused.  However, Neal must remain unattached to the woman he marries in order to break the horrific curse.  When Thea and Neal’s relationship turns to passion, his fate is threatened and it’s anyone’s guess what will happen next.

Quick, compelling and mysterious, this read will leave you hanging in the truest of forms!  I haven’t read a true cliffhanger in a long time and this one definitely has me awaiting the next book of the series in hopes of relieving my curiosity.  It is a novel that urges you to root for happily ever after as it attempts to prove that love truly can conquer all.

With Neal’s unusual bride specifications, it’s not surprising that Thea is disturbed and a little curious about this boy turned man from her childhood.  The heat is amazing due to the forbidden love and fear of consequences their relationship toys with.  I’ve included an excerpt below for your reading pleasure.

“Tomorrow.” The word was starting to sound weak to his own ears.

He opened the door and escaped into the hallway. Only then could he breathe again. He struggled a moment with his own weakness.

Neal had to think. He couldn’t marry Thea. His father had been right. If he married Thea, he would love her more.

And it wasn’t just the intimacy between them that he loved.  He could talk to her and she listened to him. She was interested in what he thought and how he felt. And there was trust between them.

Now he understood the danger of the siren.  Thea had seduced him. His senses were still full of her. He faced her door, uncertain if he had the courage to leave here and return to his room. All he wanted to do was go back to her. He needed her.

Just as Neal started to reach for the door handle, Mirabel’s voice spoke behind him.
“It’s about time you came out of there,” she said.

This book is a wonderful mix of suspense and romance as passion ignites and a century old curse looms overhead.  With mystical elements and well developed characters and sub characters, Lyon’s Bride will keep you hook to your seat and eager for more.  It’s actually enraging that you have to await book two, because you’ll want to read it now!
