Review
I hate when I ride the fence with any conclusions that I make about a book. Even if I do end up giving it a fair rating, there is still something that made me hesitate. What makes me hesitant with this novel is that the whole story is rushed. Sure, it is long in pages but not in events. Bliss and Trey know each other from when he was hurt. She helped to heal him and grew to like his family. When Bliss finds herself in some trouble, Trey comes to rescue her from a group of warriors. She declares him her husband and he doesn’t deny it. To her people (the Pict healers) that means they are married.
Both are accepting of this and they continue on their journey. There are some men looking for Bliss since they are aware of her gift, so Trey vows to protect her. After an attack on MacAlphin lands, Trey has to go to fight. When he returns, Bliss rushes into his arms relieved that her husband returns safely. This all happens by 9% into the story. I didn’t know what else can happen since they are both ecstatic to be with one another. I found it difficult to buy since Trey just lost the love of his life and 5% into the story he believes that maybe Bliss is sent to relieve some of that pain. Really?
I absolutely love a highland story. It is something about a Scottish warrior that gets me every time. Trey is a great example of a strong and fierce highland warrior. I even liked Bliss as lead female character. The fact that she has the foresight to see into the future adds a bit of a twist to the story. However, her ability did little to help them when danger was lurking around each corner. Her ability became a distraction since the author explained all of the danger that Bliss could see before it happened. Therefore there is little surprised to what will happen in the book. There is no twist or shock value.
For fans who have read the previous books in this serious, the identity of the King is revealed and all the secrets are wrapped up nicely.
