She Has Hardly Any Choices Left...

With her clan on the wrong side of the struggle for the Scottish throne, heiress Daphne Macleod, once the toad of the court, is out of options...

And They're All Dangerous...

Norris Sutherland once helped Daphne, but she walked away from him without a backward glance. Now she's in deep trouble and needs him more than ever. But he may be lost forever...unless she can somehow convince him to forgive her.

Review

Daphne Macleod has already crossed her family once. She got out of marrying a man by giving herself to another one. The problem is that she can’t stop thinking of Norris Sutherland but she must put him out of her mind. She left him and there is no going back.

Norris is back to help Daphne and remind her of the passion they had once shared. He doesn’t want a wife but he is willing to take all that Daphne can give. When one of Norris enemies tries to force Daphne into marriage, he steps in to claim what has always been his.

Daphne is a strong character. No matter what happens to her, she stands firm and strong. She deals with every blow that comes her way and I admire the strength in her character. I felt bad for her but she holds her own as everyone treats her bad in this book. Norris is a typical highlander. He is an alpha that stands by his woman and supports her. He demands respect and will go the distance for those he loves.

The side characters are appealing. In this case, I wished that Norris and Daphne’s brothers had stories of their own within the book. The “evil” characters brought life to the story by trying to keep Daphne and Norris separated.

I typically like Mary Wine’s books but this one was just mediocre. It is not memorable at all. The story dragged in parts to me. Some times I flew through pages and other times it seemed to drag on. The story does pick up at halfway through the book and it continues to get better. At this point, there are no other characters that I want to know about.
