Review
Andrew, Earl of Bellingham or Bell, for short, is a creature of habit and routine. In fact, in a recent episode the Earl through quite a fit because he was served a different breakfast than expected and late as well. His episode causes him to lose his star chef, but that’s the least of his problems. With all of his friends hoping on board the marriage train, Bell finds himself alone and restless, ready for a new conquest and he thinks he’s found her.
Laura Davenport, Lady Chesfield, lost her husband years ago, leaving her with a stepson to raise on her own, since his guardian refuses to have anything to do with him; at least that’s how it has been, until now. Laura has taken her stepson to London, refusing to let him go alone with his friends. His uncle and guardian is not happy about the situation, claiming she should not be taking him on trips without prior permission. Justin, her stepson, is becoming a man and spending less time with her and more time with his friends, a lot of boys he really could do without. If dealing with a teenager isn’t enough, Laura is also the interesting stranger in town, and a challenge to London’s most notorious rouge. Little does he know how much power she holds in the finger he finds himself wrapped around, at least we hope so.
A Season for Sin is a short prequel to Ms. Dreiling's new series. Please note that I mentioned this is short, as in about 100 pages – a mere dip in the water, so to speak. This short story starts off slow at first but quickly picks up the pace, leaving me begging for more when the end was upon me and I wasn’t ready to quit reading the story. I was actually a little upset that the full installment was not available to me right away. I hate waiting for the next book of a series to be released when the first is a full length novel, this is worse! I find myself sitting in complete abandonment, dying to know what will happen between these characters, their friends and themselves as they come to terms with their fears of the past.
True to Vicky’s style, this short has it all. It’s just missing the last 200 pages, which I have no choice but to wait for in attempted patience and curiosity. Should you read this book? Yes. However, you might wait until the first in the series is released if you want to avoid the cliffhanger this will undoubtedly leave you with. If you simply can’t wait to start the series, have at it! This short will lead you straight to the bookstore for the next round.
