Review
The second book in the “Devilishly” series lacks any real action and very little real romance. It is entertaining, but nothing to gush over.
Michael Archer has been frozen for the last thirty-three years and things have really changed since the seventies. I enjoyed Michael’s acclimation to present day. He forgets that he has a cell phone, uses outdated slang and orders outdated drinks. It adds some humor to a story that is otherwise flat.
Michael is grumpy and doesn’t like most of the changes to his profession. Instead of killing demons the DIA is now trying to keep them alive in order to help them. I found the character interesting, but not deep enough. The reader doesn’t learn how Michael was frozen, what he was like before, and really anything other than the way he feels about Liza we don’t know what he’s feeling in present day.
Liza Archer has a big problem. She’s possessed by a cranky demon, Bartoris. His job is to keep her working her hardest at her job as the editor of HOT! Magazine. HOT! Magazine just happens to be the headquarters for the Demon takeover. Liza is the most interesting and humorous character in the book. I love how she drugs the demon with Benadryl.
The book moves at a slow pace and there is little action, except for the sexual kind. Even the big scene at the end where good triumphs over evil happens to fast and without any read action. The love scenes between Michael and Liza are the most exciting part of the book . The scenes are well written and spicy, but lack any romance. The only connection between them doesn’t feel romantic, it feels forced. Their love is fated, so therefore it must be true.
The book felt like only half a story and I didn’t believe the happily ever after in the end.
