Eventide picks right up where the last book left off. Riley Po is captured against her will by Victorian, a vampire obsessed with her. She has been bit by him and his evil brother, Valerian and the ties that bind them all is stronger than ever. As she struggles with the evil darkness that is swirling around inside her from the bite of the Acros brothers, she becomes fearful and mean-spirited. She tries to hide behind her work and her loves ones but she can’t for so long. Pretty soon, Eli realizes that Riley is no longer the woman he first met, and he has to turn to the one person he hates, Victorian. Eli takes Riley to the Acros castle in Romania hoping that Victorian’s father can help Riley control the evil forces that dwell inside of her.

I really enjoy each addition of the Dark Ink Chronicles. There is something sexy about the dark southern vampires. However, this latest installment left me wanting the same action-packed, thrilling punch that I became use to in this series. Instead, I received a lot of inner dialogue from Riley. She ends up constantly complaining about them in one second and the next, she claims she loves them. The back and forth complaints grated on my nerves throughout the story. The lack of action left me desiring more.

I also hate, hate, hate love triangles. I think that the author tries to play with the reader’s mind with the emotional display of affection that Victorian shows Riley. She claims to love Eli but she ends up going to Victorian for comfort. Overall, I believe she loves Eli but I don’t care for the play on a pseudo-love triangle. 

She never opens up to Eli or shows any real emotional connection to him in this book. Everything about Eli reflects his emotions for her and while I do understand that Riley is a kick-ass chick who is independent it would have been nice to see a softer, vulnerable side to her or at least, her open up to the man she loves. Finally at the end, she confesses her emotions for Eli and it is wonderful he gets the HEA he deserves.

Overall, I think the book ended on a positive note. If any more books in this series are published, I will definitely read them.
