A fallen angel with a mission and a medical examiner who’s lost her faith are fighting for their souls in a glittering, near-future Manhattan…

Blind faith is for fools. That’s what Dr. Morgan Sterling believes. And she’s going to prove it by curing the zombie plague ravaging her city’s slums. She’s certain it’s not a sign of the End of Days, but a nasty disease—until an angel appears in her morgue in a flash of glory.

Luniel is not just a fallen angel. He’s a powerful warrior sworn to fight evil in hopes of a chance at redemption. He’s after the demon princes who are stealing the seven vials of holy wrath which, when perverted, will unleash eternal hell on earth.

To stop the plague, Luniel needs Morgan’s help, and her faith. But Morgan believes science is their salvation. If the zombie plague is a demonic curse—and if Luniel is true— he’ll have to prove it. Even if he loses his heart to true love or his soul to Hell…

Series: A Novel of the Seven Signs

Review

Revelation by Erica Hayes is the first novel in her The Seven Signs series. This is a modern novel, set in the not-so-distant future of Manhattan, New York. Shunned angels, also known as Tainted Hosts/Angels, roam the Earth doing Heaven’s dirty work and hoping to gain God’s good graces before the End of Days and their soulless selves are sentenced to an eternity of nothing.

Hero and fallen angel Luniel’s worst fear has come true: Revelation’s first two signs of the End of Days have happened. But really, demons have stolen seven vials of Holy Wrath and are causing the signs to occur before God intends for them to.

Heroine Dr. Morgan Sterling does not believe in this Christian End of Days nonsense and is using the city lab’s resources to research a cure for the zombie plague. She doesn’t believe, but she is a good person.

Admittedly, I did not get far in this book. The hero and heroine’s reactions are so confusing I stopped reading at page 61. When the hero meets the heroine he’s immediately drawn to her, but it’s hard to buy since angels don’t have an instant-love component to their existence.

Then, the heroine is so terrified of the hero she passes out. Yet when she wakes up she kisses him (knowing it’s him), almost sleeps with him, stops when he tells her to and jerks up fully awake and in complete surprise she let the insane man kiss her.

Demons come, the hero is determined to protect the heroine and when she receives a demon bite she almost dies. The hero touches her bite and takes the venom into his body and the heroine becomes upset claiming he’s violated her. She’s described as a logical doctor. Her reactions and thinking are not logical at all (at least up until page 61).

In addition to this, the premise of Revelation may offend and terrify God-fearing religions. Some angels are cast out of Heaven for doing bad things and are now commissioned by God or his good-standing angels to kill, mame and destroy as necessary.

Archangel Michael is introduced as an orgy-loving, cussing, Heavenly-sanctioned angel who keeps a sadomasochistic pet demon.

Despite the shocking anti-Christian nature I would have finished Revelation to give it a proper review, but add unbelievable character reactions and this book is not one I wish to finish.
