Sometimes your past is the only link to your future.

After a rejuvenating trip to Ireland, Avery Marks can’t help her frustration with the pace of her life in Alaska. Back in the small town of Indigo—where everyone knows everyone else’s business—Avery dreams of a bigger life. But with her ex-boyfriend back in town, it’s hard to get the past out of her head.

Drafted by the NHL right out of high school, Roman Forsyth left behind the love of his life to follow his pro career. With an injury sidelining him, Roman isn’t sure how much longer he’ll be at the top of his game. He is sure that he wants Avery just as much as he ever did.

While Roman wants a chance to make things right, Avery isn’t sure she can just forgive and forget. But when their long-buried passion sizzles back to life, they need to escape the watchful eyes of the rest of the town long enough to figure out if it’s any harder to stay together than it’s been to stay apart …

Review

I was on a groove with feel good books. I’ve been very selective with my choices and stuck with themes that I know would make me feel good. Small town romances are one of my favorites but this one rocked the boat at times. I went from loving to hating this book at every other chapter.

The book starts off with Sloan and Walker (previous main characters in this series) tying the knot. Avery Marks just came back from a life changing trip and is very uncertain about her future in Indigo, Alaska. To make matters worst, her ex-boyfriend, Roman Forsyth is home for the wedding.

The two have a complicated past. Avery is still hurt that Roman left her behind to pursue a career as a pro-hockey player. After all the years, Avery finds herself still attracted to Roman but she can’t go down that path again. Now she wants better and she is determined to get it.

Roman can’t deny that he still wants Avery. She was the one that he let get away. However, Avery is not hearing any of that. With his career on the line due to an injury, Roman takes the time home to win Avery back. With the help of some meddling townsfolk and their friends, Roman embarks on his biggest challenge.

They anger and bitterness between Avery and Roman makes for some great sexual tension. However, when they finally start humping like rabbits, it is kind of awkward. The two kept harboring on the past. The same issues came up over and over throughout the book and they never got over it. Roman does some dumb things in this story and he is not completely honest with Avery about the future of his career. He makes random decisions and has an Aha moment at the end. The ending happened to quickly but at least the story is cleaned up and came together.

While I am on the fence about Avery and Roman, I liked the small town and the nosy people in Indigo. I felt something was missing and that might be due to the fact that I have not read the other books in the series. I look forward to going back a bit and checking them out.
