Rugby player Spencer Bailey is determined to win a spot on England's World Cup team. But with a month break before the selectors start watching him, he's eager to have fun with a woman who knows the score: the relationship will end when rugby season begins. The lovely American Caitlyn Sweeney seems perfect for the role of temporary lover, since her visa will run out soon anyway.

Caitlyn works for an international disaster relief organization and can handle the world's worst crises, but she flinches from her own. Her past has left her with a fear of intimacy so deep that she has trouble getting close to anyone—until she meets sexy Spencer. His hot body and easygoing nature are too much for even her to resist.

Neither Caitlyn nor Spencer expects to fall hard for each other. But with their relationship deadline approaching, the old rules of the game seem less important than before…until past secrets surface, challenging everything they thought they knew about each other.

Review

I have to let you in on a secret…I’m a sucker for romances with an American in Europe, so this may be a little biased, but this is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve ever read!  I feel like it incorporates a little bit of everything into the story—past secrets, current events, family problems, sports, interesting (awesome!) jobs, great secondary characters—making it feel extremely authentic. Life goes on all around us in real life, and Kat Latham doesn’t forget that when telling us Spencer and Caitlyn’s story.

Spencer Bailey – a man on a mission.  Spencer remains celibate during the rugby season to focus on his game…he has every intention of finally making it back onto England’s World Cup team.  BUT, he now has a month off before getting back to rugby practice, and his short-term mission is to find a woman to spend that month with—a woman who knows for the beginning their ‘relationship’ will only last until the start of rugby season.

Enter Caitlyn Sweeney – a woman who has had some really sad things happen to her over the course of her life, which have left her terrified of becoming intimate with men.  Caitlyn doesn’t just have a chance meeting with him on the street…she has a chance meeting with his grandfather!  One early morning, Caitlyn is out walking when Philip, a stranger who happens to be Spencer’s grandfather, has a heart attack right in the middle of the street.  As a disaster relief worker, Caitlyn has had a lot of first aid and CPR training, and gets right to work helping Philip.  After the paramedics arrive, Caitlyn gives them her business card and number and asks them to contact her to let her know what happens.

So, Spencer and Caitlyn end up meeting at the hospital, a place they both seem to hate.  And of course Philip finds a way to make sure that Spencer and Caitlyn see each other again.  (Philip and his dog, Minnie, are the best secondary characters ever!)  When Spencer and Caitlyn start discussing the possibility of a short-term relationship, they find although they have different motives, it just might mutually benefit both of them.  Besides, Caitlyn’s visa will be up shortly after rugby starts back up, so what could the harm be?

I had such a fantastic time watching these two characters fall in love with each other without them even realizing it.  Of course, they will eventually discover each other’s secrets, and there are other MAJOR bumps along the way.  Who knows where these two will end up?  (Well, actually, I do, but I’m not telling.)
