Series: The Submissive Trilogy (Book 2)

Review

Nathaniel West is a powerful CEO use to getting what he wants. He has a reputation of exploring some of the “kinkier” acts of sex. While he doesn’t believe in training a woman to be his submissive, when Abigail Kings applies for the job without experience, he finds himself agreeing to be her Dom. The two embark on a journey that neither fully understands. The lines are blurred and emotions run high. Will they find a happy medium before someone gets hurt?

First, if you haven’t read the first book in the submissive trilogy, go read it. With that being said, I will admit that I don’t normally like to read books that is told from another person’s POV when I have read the story initially in someone else’s POV. The first book was told through Abby’s POV but the author decided to give us a peek in Nathaniel’s mind. This ploy is kind of weak and only causes the readers to buy book 2 but without getting any new information.

Well the author wowed me! This is better than the first book. I loved getting into Nathaniel’s mind. It made him more interesting and human. Before, he was just a Dom that rarely showed any struggle over the emotions that developed.  In this addition, his vulnerabilities are so endearing and real. There is a scene from the first book that Abby struggles with. I didn’t think Nathaniel had any issues with it. Holy Crap! I was wrong. Reading his POV almost made me tear up. I didn’t think he felt anything for what transpired between them.

I enjoyed reading what Nathaniel was up to while Abby was waiting on him. His relationship with Jackson and Todd is an added bonus. Who knew that the guys had a great sense of humor? What I enjoyed the most was the poetry. I’m a lover of poetry. Give me the greats (John Keats, Lord Baron, etc) any day and I’m a goner. Nathaniel and Abby’s play of words and use of poetry (they quote famous love poems to each other) is such a highlight.

‘She walks in beauty, like the night.
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes….’

I can’t wait to read The Training. I hope the author is able to tied up all loose ends and give us a sense of what Abby and Nathaniel are feeling without having to add another book.
