Easing into the turns…

As one of only two girls on the tween racing circuit, Shawn Hamby has always run with a fast crowd. But now at thirty-two, she doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. And she definitely doesn’t need a man bossing her around off of the track…

Putting the pedal to the metal…

But after a silly girls’ night at a fetish club, Shawn can’t get Rhett Ford out of her mind. He’s younger than her, and he’s her best friend’s brother-in-law, which should be red flags. Rhett is looking for someone to lead in bed, but he can’t imagine that Shawn would ever submit to him. Boldly surrendering is more her style. And with Rhett behind the wheel, it’s going to be one wild ride…

Review

A fun, quick read perfect for a snowy day!

My first McCarthy novel and it was about racing. Now, I’m not a huge fan, but there was a point in my life, until a certain #3 driver passed, that I watched NASCAR regularly. Therefore I can appreciate a good racing romance.

First call out this book isn’t about submission and fun experimental sex only. McCarthy gives the tomboy Shawn a reason to give Rhett a shot in the bedroom and her life. It’s a pretty fun take on one of my favorite tropes: marriage of convenience, and that’s the only thing I’ll say on the matter. To see the trope in a contemporary platform that is believable is always a joy.

Shawn and Rhett are also a joy to get to know. Rhett’s not a bad boy, but he’s a super intense guy with deep feelings. He likes to talk and Shawn doesn’t. On the surface these two seem like polar opposites but then again maybe that’s why they are perfect for each other.

Bedroom romps are scorching. This touches some BDSM aspects; hence the sensual rating, but some of the things Shawn and Rhett verbally mention don’t get page play. If you’re a stickler for BDSM rules these characters experiment more than a full on commitment to the lifestyle so the rules are a bit lax but, safety is still in place and debasement never allowed.

What I didn’t enjoy is the book was super short. It flew by and the conflicts appeared and disappeared quick, fast, and in a hurry. Easy resolutions to conflict, limited conflict between the two characters, with virtually no secondary plot.  This kept my rating down, but I did enjoy her writing style and the characters.

If you like fast paced stories with characters that endear you quickly then this book would be a good buy. Plus, fast driving and a good ole fashioned tomboy submitting to a sexy alpha in the bedroom are worth the read.
