Wicked intrigue unfolds in USA TODAY bestselling author Kasey Michaels's series about the Redgraves—four siblings celebrated for their legacy of scandal and seduction…

Plagued by the scandal that once destroyed his father and now threatens his family, Valentine Redgrave dreams of dark justice. Brother to the Earl of Saltwood, with secret ties to the Crown, he won't rest until he infiltrates and annihilates England's most notorious hellfire club. To cross its elite members is to court destruction, yet he's never craved a challenge more. Until he encounters enigmatic governess Daisy Marchant, who behind a plain-Jane guise harbors a private agenda and appeals to his every weakness…and desire.

Valentine's hunt for revenge is Daisy's key to finding her sister, who may be lost in the clutches of a deadly Society. But his seductive charm unlocks passion that can undo them both. Now, the only way to escape death and rescue their families is to trust each other in love and loyalty…even as they tread deeper into danger.

Review

I missed book two in this series, but I’m oh-so-glad I came back for book three. Valentine is reminiscent of another of Michael’s characters, a certain Puck from the Blackthorn Series. He plays quite the frivolous and debauched character, when in fact he’s anything but. His mission to expose more players in The Society is worth everything. Valentine is definitely as loyal to the Redgrave’s as the rest of the siblings, and refuses to give up his grandmother’s and family’s reputation without a fight. As the youngest Redgrave he has a valet as his keeper, one who’s taken care of him since he was in short pants. Otherwise Valentine schemes, thinks out loud a little too-often and is one for rescuing damsels in distress. I loved him.

As to the damsel in distress, we are provided with would-be governess, Daisy Marchant. She’s hearty and brave, even in the face of certain death and danger. When Valentine shows up on the estate where her sister disappeared, she believes he’ll be more of a hindrance then a help. I enjoyed this heroine because she’s smart and willing to jump right into danger. Valentine sees these traits she has and embraces them, even though it goes against his women-protecting instincts.

What makes this book work is the perfect balance of romance and mystery. Valentine and Daisy are on the hunt for those who would murder, corrupt, and all-together complete unspeakable things. Along the way they get a little closer than planned, which creates some interesting scenes. The relationship isn’t perfect, and there’s plenty of conflict, but it doesn’t take away from the overall problem. Both external and internal conflicts were together and create an excellent pacing.

If you like a bit of suspense in your Historicals this is one book you shouldn’t miss. The other great news, the problem of The Society isn’t resolved yet and there’s still one more book to go with the final Redgrave brother being the one to put this evil group to rest.
