Two opponents must confront the cause of their obsessive fury in the latest Novel of the Elder Races…

As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she’s ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy’s incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own.

To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin’s mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion—culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.

Review

So this is my first Thea Harrison book, and I’m impressed. There is a whole alternate fantasy world with tons of mythical creatures my heart stopped when I read the book blurb. I was really expecting to throw in the towel, but Harrison ensnared me, explained the world, and I wasn’t overwhelmed.

We have the harpy, Aryal, she’s wicked with her talons and wings. She’s also a great heroine who’s not afraid to be who she is and love who she is. This is one bad butt chick and I loved her to pieces. Being a gal who doesn’t like to wear makeup or dress up in a bunch of clothes I feel are uncomfortable I could relate to Aryal’s natural ways. I also loved her ability to think from both sides of a situation. When I thought she’d overreact she’d do the opposite. When I believed she wouldn’t care, she did. I learned quickly to expect the unexpected.

Quentin is h-o-capital-T! This guy is a newly appointed Sentinel and he’s part cat. Meow! This alpha male is definitely sexy as hell and a bit difficult to contend with. He’s got some rough spots and is attempting to turn over a new leaf. The first part of this book, expect heads to role as Aryal is no submissive either and she won’t back down from a fight. While he’s tough this pussycat has a soft side too him that doesn’t show easy. I loved getting to know Quentin, the dig into his character and how he acted adult in coming to terms with his feelings is worth the read.

For those hesitant about jumping back into the paranormal worlds this is a great place to start. It’s got an equal balance of action and romance. There is also a small D/s side to the romance aspect that I enjoyed, but if you’re not into those types of stories then take the Kinked title to heart. The hero and heroine require a little bit more than standard vanilla romance to give their romp spice and meaning.

Overall, if  you like magic, supernatural creatures not always given top billing, and a chance to get a bit kinky—Kinked is the book for you. If you’re worried about jumping into a series mid-stride I recommend going back and reading Harrison’s first book of the series: Dragon Bound.
