In this all-new novel from the author of After Hours and Unbound, a woman with a rocky past finds romance in the last place she’d ever expect...

Annie Goodhouse doesn’t need to be warned about bad boys; good sense and an abusive ex have given her plenty of reasons to play it safe. But when she steps into her new role as outreach librarian for Cousins Correctional Facility, no amount of good sense can keep her mind—or eyes—off inmate Eric Collier.

Eric doesn’t claim to be innocent of the crime that landed him in prison. In fact, he’d do it again if that’s what it took to keep his family safe. Loyalty and force are what he knows. But meeting Annie makes him want to know more.

When Eric begins courting Annie through letters, they embark on a reckless, secret romance—a forbidden fantasy that neither imagines could ever be real…until early parole for Eric changes everything, and forces them both to face a past they can’t forget, and a desire they can’t deny.

Review

Annie Goodhouse has promised herself that she wouldn’t date any more bad boys. The last one she dated left her with bruises that have long faded but left permanent memories. She is starting fresh in a new state and volunteers her services at the local correctional facility. She meets Eric Collier, an inmate, who touches her in a way that no man has but he is the bad guy.

Eric is drawn to Annie and her kindness. He knows that she is off limit but he can’t help the intensity of his feelings. His crime is offensive but he did what he had to do in order to protect his family. He doesn’t apologize for it but he is not the monster that everyone would have him to be.

A slow and steady courtship begins with Eric and Annie through sweet and romantic love letters. Annie is scared to let herself for Eric but how can you resist a man who says some of the sweetest things. She allows herself for a moment to live in the fantasy but when Eric comes home, can she fully give herself to real man.

I liked this book. This is different from your traditional erotic romance story. Eric is an inmate and for most readers that is something hard to grasp but he has his sweet moments. He is intense and their passion is so erotic.

Annie took some time to warm me because she didn’t want to accept Eric’s truth and his feelings for her. In her defense, I got the fact that he was an inmate and not the ‘ideal’ mate for a woman but he was a good guy. In all honesty, she didn’t know the real man behind the letters. The story starts off with these long fantasies and then shape into a sweet and enduring romance.

My biggest problem is that the second half of the story is kind of lackluster. Readers have to watch Eric and Annie struggle with getting to know each other in a more intimate and personal way. Also, the story ends rather quickly. After all the angst about being together, I wanted a really nice epilogue.
