It takes one to know one

The moment Vivian Walker spies Seth Anderson she knows they're a match made in hedonistic pleasure. And they both agree their one night together is all about fun, not forever.

Now, years later, Seth remains a favorite memory. Surely the sizzling chemistry has faded, though, right? Apparently not. Because he's still sinfully attractive, and she likes the man he is. When he suddenly becomes a full-time dad to his newborn daughter, Vivian falls hard. Yet despite the responsibilities, he's not a good bet for commitment. And she needs to guard her heart before she gets into trouble!

Review

Honestly, I can always count on Sarah Mayberry. That’s it. Period. She always delivers those emotional reads that leave me weepy and heart achy. And Her Kind of Trouble is no exception.

This is a story about a woman, our heroine Vivian, who has a one-night-stand with her sister’s brother-in-law—our hero, Seth— (are you following me?) the night of her sister’s wedding. Here’s the problem, Seth’s brother—the one marrying Vivian’s sister-- expressly warns him off Vivian. He doesn’t want any drama with his new in-laws. Okay, I get that. Too bad Seth and Vivian are immediately attracted to each other and act on it pretty darn quickly, ergo the one-night-stand.

Let me give you a flavor of this white-hot, instant attraction from Vivian’s POV.

“He cocked an eyebrow, his mouth quirking into a speculative, assessing smile as his gaze traveled down her body and up again. Not to be outdone, she raised an eyebrow at him and gave him the same treatment, deliberately lingering on his crotch, just so he knew who he was dealing with.”

After the wedding, they both go their own way and over the next ten years they see each other periodically. Vivian can’t let Seth become important to her, knowing it would lead to disaster. She manages to do that until her sister wants her and Seth to be her sons' legal guardians if anything should happen to her and her husband. Oh and Seth gets this girl—I can’t even call her his girlfriend—pregnant. Circumstances begin throwing them together and that’s when things between them get complicated.

Boy, didn’t I love these two together and separate. Neither of the two are perfect. Thank goodness! And in many ways, they’re similar. To both their families, they are the siblings whose lives hadn't quite turned out the way they planned. No fashion designer or rock star. But the great thing about them is they find their calling, they find their path…eventually.

Vivian is all spunk and sass but inside she’s got a soft heart and she’s a fiercely loyal friend. And when she falls in love, she falls hard. Seth is adorable. I love him. He really does try to do the “right” thing. But doing the “right” means he has to deny himself what he really wants. And of course we know who that is.

Watching these two fall in love was sweet, sexy, and heart wrenching. Despite their initial meeting ten years before, the wonderful thing this time around is that it’s not just about the physical attraction—although that’s still hotter than ever. Vivian and Seth actually become friends and truly get to know and respect each other.

And get the tissues ready for the ending. Seriously, get them ready now. It’s a tearjerker. I’ve gone back several times to get my bi-weekly snifffest. I so want to see more of them. I’m not close to being done with Vivian and Seth. I’m praying to God Ms. Mayberry will see fit to have them appear in an upcoming book.  Sarah, did you hear me?

All in all, I’m giving Her Kind of Trouble two glorious thumbs up!
