The second installment of a sexy, whirlwind romance about a modern-day heroine writing historical novels based on her romantic misadventures with the Bad Boy Billionaire.
Being good hasn't exactly worked out well for Jane Sparks. Her ex-boyfriend dumped her for being too predictable, and her fake fiancé, Duke Austen, is counting on her good-girl image to repair his bad-boy reputation. But everything changes with the publication of the historical romance novel she wrote based on her fauxmance with the Bad Boy Billionaire. Suddenly she's notorious, scandalous, and causing lots of trouble.
Duke Austen always admired Jane's poise and perfectly demure behavior … qualities that seemed to have vanished once she helped him land a big investment deal. But now that his company is on the verge of a 20-billion-dollar IPO, the stakes have never been higher—and Jane has never been more shocking, provocative, or wickedly irresistible. She's not at all the woman he bargained for, yet she's the only one he wants.
Duke is determined to woo his girl gone wild. She's determined to keep him guessing. But Jane is discovering that there's nothing so appealing as a billionaire who's mad, bad, and dangerously seductive …
I chomped.
Rodale is now on my auto-buy list. Every minute of waiting for this one was worth it. In part two of the contemporary she secures a place on my list of compelling authors. Duke Austen is now in heavy competition for a spot as book boyfriend in the month of February. Honestly, I’ve never had a book boyfriend, but a bad boy billionaire sounds like a good place to start.
This book left me with one big question: Is Maya Rodale really Jane Sparks? Yes, this author has crossed the final boundary and wrote herself into one of her stories. It was mad genius. Jane Sparks launches this story by self-publishing her romping historical. Coincidentally, the same book is available for readers right now, The Wicked Wallflower. She self-publishes on a whim and some prodding from the devilish Roxanne (best friend in need of her own love story). And everything goes downhill from there.
The ex, who dumped her months before, is suddenly on the scene wanting dates, kisses, and a rekindling of romance. But Jane can’t get away from Duke, who seems more determined than ever to be part of her life.
I still love the first person POV. I only get Jane’s side of the story, but I really don’t mind. Part of the fun is having Duke’s actions a secret until the moment of the reveal. Also, Duke gets a big push in the awesome department since the back-in-the-scene-ex shows how much of a douche one guy can be.
Otherwise the dialogue is sharp, witty. The sex is hot, and it’s limited. There’s more tension then the actual deed. All the more to tease us with, thank you author. Add in a secret, barely there secondary plot, and a storm brewing on the horizon—this book is AWESOME!
My favorite part:
If I felt his body against mine, I’d start to lose my mind and everyone at this party would start talking aobut it. There would be a video online of me losing control and I’d never live it down.
Duke cupped my face in his hands, holding me gently like I was the most precious thing in the world. My hands slid down the length of his chest, down along his back to rest against his ass. Urging him against me I felt just how much he wanted me. I sighed, desperate to satiate my desire for him.My lust for Duke had a way of destroying my best intentions and annihilating my better intentions.
If I went home with him now…
Then I’d be breaking all our rules.
Overall, buy this one and the first installment. Cinch up your pants, hold on for the ride, and then get prepared to wait until May for the final installment. I can’t wait that long.
