The night that changed everything!

Waitress Darcy Penn is the smart, sensible type—flirting with the extremely cute guy in the bar just isn't her usual style. As for ending up in his hotel room? Definitely not! Sneaking out while he's in the bathroom to avoid the post-sex awkwardness? Much more like it….

If Darcy had stuck around, Jeff Norton could have told her about their "epic latex fail." So he shouldn't be quite so shocked when months later, Darcy turns up at his classy L.A. office and throws up in his wastepaper basket. She's got a bad case of morning sickness, and she's here to find out what he's going to do about it!

Review

Mira Lynn Kelly writes characters that you can easily fall in love with.

I was first turned on to this author by a few fellow readers and, The Season’s own, Beverley Kendall.  After reading the first book of the pair, Waking Up Married, I couldn’t wait for Jeff’s story. The wait was worth it. Both books do a very fine job of standing alone so you don’t need to pick up the other to get involved with this story, though I’d recommend it because it was a good book.

Both Jeff and his buddy got the hook up in Vegas, but Jeff’s hook up gets him a visit from Darcy a few months later with a bundle of joy on the way. Kelly writes the encounters in such a refreshing way, with non-perfect sex and morning sickness. Reality met with romance and I couldn’t help but respect Jeff every step of the way. Besides be flawed by wanting to help, a little too much, Jeff is a dream. Not to mention hot, and actually looking for someone to settle down with. The question is if Darcy wants that or not, which after seeing her backstory she’s more likely to throw any type of help out the window.

Pacing in this book kept the story moving and Kelly has a unique way of starting at an action point and replaying a bit of the past mixing up with the present. This back and forth storytelling doesn’t dominate the entire story, and the timelines join up pretty quickly.  Romance is the dominate theme of the story and conflict comes from the characters GMC, no external subplots or villains in here.

Some readers may find the plot a bit predictable, but it’s a great way to bring the unplanned pregnancy trope out of Harlequin Presents and into the KISS line. I think there’s a unique voice to Kelly’s writing that makes this enjoyable. I would’ve enjoyed a little more conflict and tension, but still fell into the quick read and loving the chemistry between these two.

Overall, if you want something that blends reality and romance or a quick read to enjoy before the hectic work week begins Waking Up Pregnant is the way to go.
