Review

Enemies to Lovers perfection!

This is my first Julie James book in a long while, and boy I’ve been missing out. In her latest book, sixth in the FBI/US Attorney series, sparks fly, sarcasm takes center stage, and two people determined to deny their attraction turn into the biggest hypocrites.

I forgot how James ropes you in. Within the first chapter things went bad, and then by chapter two, it all went down the drain. Sidney hates Vaughan because he’s all about flings and not relationships. Vaughan despises Sidney’s belief that he’s such a horrible guy for being honest about what he wants, and he wants Sidney.

Then these two are playing Maid of Honor and Best Man in a wedding for their siblings, what could possibly go wrong… everything! They’re trying to do their part and play their roles, but at every turn attraction threatens to impede their assignments. The hilarious part is how all those evil hate words turn into something sexy when they get alone.

One of my favorite scenes is the first kiss, and mostly the dialogue leading up to it.

“What’s so terrible about a guy like me? Here’s the way I see it: if you’re looking for happily-ever-after, there ar ea lot better guys out there for the job. But if you want a good time, then I’m your man, baby.”

“I’ll say this, you’re nothing if not confident.”

Hell, yes, he was—and for good reason. He peered down into her eyes. “I would rock your world, Sinclair, and you know it.”

It was about right then that he noticed they were sitting just inches apart on the grass. But she didn’t move, and neither did he.

“Ah, yes. Your supposed ‘moves.’” She emphasized the word with a saucy tilt of her head. “That certain…something that puts the ‘special’ in Special Agent Vaughn Roberts.
Did I mention our hero is a Special Agent? He takes down the bad guys running guns, and handling white-collar crimes. He’s the guy who puts the investment banks robbing little old ladies and the Senators in shady deals in prison. Super sexy, super dangerous, and I like by men bad.

Sidney apparently does too. Because she gets Vaughn’s appeal, even though he doesn’t make her list of guy she’d want to date. Sidney is definitely a neat heroine because she’s working toward a goal and trying to avoid anything getting in her way. Though sometimes the things interrupting a person’s goal may help them achieve it.

Overall, this book has excellent pacing, flow, conflict, action, and a great love story. Color me impressed, and I can’t wait to read James next book.
