Hard Rules is a family saga full of greed, lies and power plays. Each chapter is like a move in a chess game. No character is completely good or bad. There is no clear definition of anyone’s intentions. I became completely enthralled with the story as I tried to figure out what was going on. At this point, I’m not sure who can be trusted.

The chemistry between Emily and Shane is intense. They are both clear that a relationship would never work and they shouldn’t continue seeing each other but the magnetic pull is stronger than either one of them care to admit. The love scenes are hot! I love the intensity of them.

Brandon Enterprises is into some shady business. There is blackmail, drugs, and scandal looming over Shane’s head. Despite all of that, my attention was more drawn to Emily and the secrets she harbors. There are some clues but I can’t be 100% certain with all of the craziness that is going on.

I’m not sure why the blurb for this book references Sons of Anarchy because I didn’t get similarities from the book. I did like that each chapter began with a quote from a fictional or real-life organized crime member.

Hard Rules ends on a cliff hanger and I am anxious to see what happens with Emily and Shane.
