Chasing Fire is a gripping tale of fire, revenge, and love.

Rowan Tripp is a Missoula smoke jumper and spends her summers jumping out of planes and fighting fires. The group she works with feels like family and it hits Rowan especially hard when her jump partner dies in an accident. Returning the next summer, she has to fight the nightmares that won’t let her go and the mysterious someone who is out to hurt her and the other smoke jumpers.

I really liked Rowan. She is tough and stubborn, but knows how to let someone else take the lead. She is alone, except for her father and team, and doesn’t let people get too close. She has baggage and is the first to admit it. Rowan’s world is turned upside down by the appearance of Gulliver Curry.

Gulliver is a rookie smoke jumper and the attraction between them is instantaneous. Gull pursues Rowan with a single mindedness that I found very sexy. He doesn’t come on too strong, but he also isn’t going to back down just because she doesn’t jump at the chance of falling into bed with him. He is a man who knows his own worth and knows she is the woman for him.

These two are a fun couple and I really loved “watching” them fall in love. There are also lots of secondary characters who move this story along. While Rowan and Gulliver are definitely the hero and heroine, the secondary characters add so much. It wouldn’t have been half as good without the other smoke jumpers – Dobie, Cards, Chainsaw, -Libby, and the others. Rowan’s father, Lucas, also plays an important role in Rowan’s growth throughout the book and the happily ever after.

The main storyline focuses on someone out to harm the smoke jumpers and Rowan in particular. Throughout the book several red herrings are thrown in the reader’s path, and I was shocked when the bad guy was revealed. (I figured it out one or two chapters before the reveal) This book is perfect as a romantic suspense – there was an equal amount of focus put on the romance and the intrigue.

With snappy dialogue and great characters, Chasing Fire, is the right book for a fan of romance.
