The Season website went up in May and I didn’t start doing Readers’ Top Picks until August, which meant I had seven months of missed Top Picks for 2009. Yes, you guessed it, I’m playing catchup today starting with Readers’ Top Pick for January. The readers voted and their selection is–drum roll please–Lorraine Heath’s BETWEEN DESIRE AND THE DEVIL. (Cheers explode in the background).

BETWEEN DESIRE AND THE DEVIL is the second book in Lorraine’s The Scoundrels of St. James series. Recently MIDNIGHT PLEASURES WITH A SCOUNDREL landed #35 on the New York Times Bestseller List. (Cheers explode in the backgroound). Indeed, NYT, no small feat. 🙂 Congratulations Lorraine!

lorraineheathLorraine Heath is the daughter of a British beauty (her mom won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero–Joker on the original Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her “dual” nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan, and she enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.

When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA Today, Waldenbooks, and most recently, the New York Times.

At the invitation of Laura Bush when she was the First Lady of Texas, Lorraine served on a romance panel at the Texas Book Festival in 1998. She gave a presentation at the Texas Library Association Conference in 1999. She also served on a panel during RWA’s 2001 Librarian Appreciation Day. She often speaks at local libraries, to writers’ groups, readers’ groups, and at small conferences.

Lorraine also writes for teens under the name Rachel Hawthorne and Jade Parker.

London’s most notorious rogue—decadent, depraved, forbidden

The ladies of the ton won’t stop whispering about deliciously wicked Jack Dodger—once a thieving street urchin, now the wealthy owner of London’s most exclusive gentleman’s club. There’s no pleasure he hasn’t enjoyed, no debauchery the handsome scoundrel won’t provide for the lords who flock to his house of carnal intrigue.

London’s most virtuous lady—honorable, uncorrupted, and all too human

scoundrelsofstjamesOlivia, Duchess of Lovingdon, would never associate with such a rogue. So when Jack is named sole heir to the duke’s personal possessions, the beautiful, well-bred lady is outraged. Now, Olivia is forced to share her beloved home with this despicable man.

Caught between the devil and desire

But Olivia’s icy disdain is no match for Jack’s dangerous charm. His touch awakens desire. His kiss demands surrender. She will struggle to bar Jack from her heart . . . but her body, coveting divine release, will not let her bar him from her bed.

  17. Lorraine,
Your books are wonderful and circulate well at our library. Your western books are especially popular.
This series sounds good, but then, there hasn’t been anything of yours I’ve read that I haven’t liked.
Your background explains how you do such a good job at writing western and english historicals with such real characters.
