As of this post, I’m officially caught up. YAY!! The Season readers voted Julia Quinn’s WHAT HAPPENED IN LONDON as their June Top Pick. Congrats Julia!! If you somehow managed to miss the book with the rose on the cover, I’m giving a copy away to a lucky commenter. As WHAT HAPPENED IN LONDON hit the New York Times bestseller’s list, there might be very few of you readers out there. πŸ˜‰

JQ_publicityphotoJulia Quinn obtained a degree in Art History form Harvard, later she decided to attend medical school. She started writing her first book, SPLENDID, one month after finishing college and she postponed medical school for two years while she wrote two more novels. After only a few short months of studying medicine in Yale University, however, she realized that she would much preferred writing to dissections. She left medical school and devoted herself full-time to her writing.
Julia says she chose the pen name Julia Quinn so her Regency romances would be on bookshelves next to those of the successful romance writer Amanda Quick. She won the Romance Writers of America RITA Award in 2007 for On the Way to the Wedding and in 2008 for The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever. In 2003, she enjoyed the rare honor of being profiled in Time Magazine, an accomplishment few romance novelists have achieved. Julia was a contestant on The Weakest Link and her books have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List ten times. Look for Julia’s next book, Ten Things I Love About You, in early summer of 2010.

When Olivia Bevelstoke is told that her new neighbor may have killed his fiancΓ©e, she doesn’t believe it for a second, but still, how can she help spying on him, just to be sure? So she stakes out a spot near her bedroom window, cleverly concealed by curtains, watches, and waits… and discovers a most intriguing man, who is definitely up to something.

Sir Harry Valentine works for the boring branch of the War Office, translating documents vital to national security. He’s not a spy, but he’s had all the training, and when a gorgeous blonde begins to watch him from her window, he is instantly suspicious. But just when he decides that she’s nothing more than a nosy debutante, he discovers that she might be engaged to a foreign prince, who might be plotting against England. And when Harry is roped into spying on Olivia, he discovers that he might be falling for her himself…

I adored the book trailer for this. Did you know it’s Julia’s cousin, Talia Gottlieb, a theatre major, who plays Olivia here? I do see the family resemblance, don’t you?

Comment to win a copy of the book. And what’s your favourite Julia Quinn book?

  1. I adored What Happens in London! I’m a huge JQ fan. I’ve read everything she’s written. It would be sooooooo hard to pick a favorite, but I’ll say The Duke and I since it’s the first one I read. πŸ™‚

  2. I love JQ. Her books are among the first historicals I’ve read. My favorite is probably The Duke and I. I reread it regularly with just the same pleasure…*sigh*

  3. The “eye-spy” aspect of this story was added fun! My favorite Julia Quinn book is “Mr. Cavendish, I Presume”. I love the hero’s piercing expression on the cover!

  4. It’s so hard to pick JUST one!!!! But I really thing WHAT HAPPENS IN LONDON was one of the funniest, but that may also be because it’s freshest in my mind!!! I can’t wait for TEN THINGS I LOVE ABOUT YOU.

  5. I LOVE Julia Quinn! My first book I read by her was The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever and it quickly became a favorite. It is the book I give to friends when they want to borrow a book that has wit and romance. JQ is a must buy for me and I have read all her books but then that leaves me waiting for her next book to come out ( I can’t wait for Ten Things I Lve About You). Now, having to pick a favorite is hard… I love Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Oh if only Colin Bridgerton was real, sigh.

  6. I am sorry to say I have not read Julia’s books before so please enter me because I love reading new to me authors. This book sound fabulous! So many authors and so little time to try them all. I would love to try every author out there because I love to read.

  7. The story behind your choice of pen name is horribly clever; bravo, I say. I think when it comes to my favorite Julia Quinn novel, I’d pick “The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever.” Thanks for the chance to win! πŸ™‚

  8. Oh, God, I would LOVE to win this! My favorite JQ book has to be Romancing Mister Bridgerton, because I reluctantly saw a bit of myself reflected in Penelope, with her wall-flower ways, snark, and love of writing. And Colin is just too freaking dreamy. RMB is the book I stick in my backpack so I have something to read when I dont want to read Labor Law or Constitutional Law or, God forbid, Civil Procedure. Bleh.

  9. I love Julia Quinn!!! I met her once, and she’s such a wonderful person! I loved the book trailer. Too cute! Then again, all Julia Quinn’s stories are cute!

  10. oh wow! I love Julia Quinn. I was obsessed with reading all of her Brigerton series. I stopped reading her for awhile though because her books started to lose her sparkle. I’ve heard good things about this one and would love to read it. ^^

  11. I loved this book actually I love all of Julia’s books and have everyone of them. I don’t think I could pick a favourite one of them.

    Have Fun
    Helen

  12. I also can’t pick a favorite. I just love her writing, she is really is an insperation to aspiring writers! Such talent and heart warming, funny stories she weaves!

  13. My favorite is and always will be the ‘The Viscount Who Loved me’ very closely followed by ‘The Duke and I’ and third would be ‘Romancing Mr Bridgerton’ πŸ™‚

  14. I really like JQ’s books. My all-time fave is ROMANCING MR. BRIDGERTON. I think a lot of women relate to the heroine Penelope—shy, but eventually comes into her own self and realizes her self-worth. The trailer was fun to watch. πŸ™‚

  15. I have read every one of JQ’s books, except this one. I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I loved her Bridgerton series. I especially enjoyed “On the Way to the Wedding” and “The Viscount Who Loved Me.”

  16. I would have to say all of the Bridgerton books. Ms Quinn has so many excellent books it is hard to choose.

  17. My daughters know how much I love Cinderella (I cry every time I watch it), it only makes sense that my favorite is ‘An Offer from a Gentleman’.

  18. i haven’t read any of Julia’s books . please enter me so i can start to falling love with her works πŸ™‚

  19. I have not read any of her books yet, but I would love to win one. I enjoy discovering new to me authors. Happy holidays.

  20. I’ve not read any of Julia Quinn’s books, but I would love to start with this one if I win! πŸ™‚

This book sounds great, I love books with a touch of intrigue to them!

  21. Cute trailer, Julia.

My favorite book, it is a toss up between MINX and THE SECRET DIARY OF MISS MIRANDA CHEEVER. I have several more of your books on my TBR shelf, but not WHAT HAPPENS IN LONDON. Keep writing those wonderful stories. I’ll keep reading them.

    Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

  22. I haven’t actually read any of her books yet – I’ve been meaning to for ages, since I’ve only heard good things about them, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’d love to start with What Happens in London, though! πŸ™‚
