I am on page 171 of VIKING IN LOVE. My intention was to have it read before I posted about it today. Alas, that didn’t happen. But I can tell you this, as I’m approximately half way through the book, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

I confess, I approached this book cautiously as I’m not one for medievals. I opened the book Sunday night and saw 935 A.D. and thought, ‘Oh dear Lord, this is waaay earlier than I ever expected.’ I seriously didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never read Sandra Hill before. Well to say I was happily surprised would be a mild understatement. I absolutely love how she begins this book. Her cast of characters couldn’t be more amusing. I honestly never thought I was going to laughing this much–laughing at all–when reading VIKING IN LOVE. And believe when I say this is the good kind of amusing, not the insipid silly. Of course, I’m wondering about her backlist. Are they all this good? Where should I start after I finish this one? And boy do I hope I love the last half of the book as much as I love the first. I’ve got this chant going in my head, “Sandra honey, don’t fail me now.”  LOL.

Viking In Love
Authors: Sandra Hill
Publisher: Avon Books
Release date: January 26, 2010
ISBN-13: 978-0061673498
400 pages

All Lord Caedmon of Larkspur wants, after nine long months in the king’s service, is a bit of peace…not five bothersome Viking princesses who invade his keep, especially not the fiery redhead, Breanne. He has half a mind to kick her tempting arse out the door…but wait…he has a much more wickedly delightful plan for this thorn in his…um, side.

Princess Breanne of Stoneheim is shocked at Larkspur’s rundown condition with servants and children running wild whilst Caedmon lies abed after a night of mead and, no doubt, wanton bedsport. Breanne must endure the loathsome lout to protect her four sisters. She can hardly imagine what this knight will demand of her in return.

60 Replies to “Viking In Love ~ Sandra Hill”

  1. I’ve never read a Sandra Hill either, but I’ve been seeing and hearing about VIKING IN LOVE for the last month and it sounds so good! I haven’t read a medieval in awhile, so, since I’m of Danish descent, hey, why not pick up a book about one of my ancestors, LOL! It sounds like a zany, fun read.

  2. I’ve never read Sandra hill before. And since i’m new with romance genre. i like to dive in to this world 🙂 Thanks for introducing her to me , errr, us BEV !

  3. I am new…but I’ve read about her novels on different romance forums and have had her on my (to buy) list that I take with me when I shop for older books….I don’t know why, but I thought Sandra’s books were out of print and I would have a hard time finding them? I’m glad to see that my info was wrong and want very much to read her Viking Series.

  4. i also haven’t read a Sandra Hill book. its sound funny and AWESOME =]
i haven’t touch a medieval book that far back. and one that makes you laugh soo much.

  5. I’ve read one of Sandra Hill’s contemporary novels – So Into You (loved it!).
I think Viking in Love sounds wonderful.

  6. I have read several of Sandra’s contemporaries and love ’em! Really witty. I’ve heard so much about Viking In Love–can’t wait to read it, too!

  7. I love Sandra Hill, she writes such a variety of stories and with such passion! I can’t wait to read this one!

  8. I’ve been reading Sandra Hill for AGES and flat out love her work! Her Viking books are to die for, and I’m so excited to see there’s a new one coming out! But my favorites are her time-travel-parody-send-ups. “Sweeter Savage Love” is a MUST read for anyone who has fond (or not so fond) memories of Rosemary Rogers’ book with a similar title, and Gone With the Wind fans will be screaming with laughter over Sandra’s take on it in “Frankly, My Dear”.

  9. Yes, I’m new to Sandra Hill, though I have ‘Sweeter Savage Love’ but haven’t gotten to it yet.

  10. I’ve never read Sandra Hill before, but everyone seems to be raving about this book so I’ll give it a shot. Lately, thanks to recommendations, I’ve been able to find some really great new to me authors.

  11. I read Down and Dirty whose hero is a Navy Seal and the heroine is an eleventh century Viking warrior maiden. It was truly funny and sexy. I’ve heard great things about So Into You.

  12. Though I have the entire Viking series, to which Viking In Love belongs, on my shelves Iam still new to Sandra Hill. Bought the series pure on premise, blurbs and excerpts…bur other (obligatory) reading has been preventing me from starting the series 🙁

  13. I have read one of Sandra Hill’s books Viking Unchained, and I did enjoy this book! So I could go for reading another one.

  14. I actually read only one Hill book and I remember REALLY loving it because it was so funny and cute!

  15. I have never read or heard of Sandra Hill before but your review of her book thus far has me interested in seeing what’s in her back list as well!

  16. I LOVE Sandra Hill stories, both historicals and contemporaries and can’t get enough of her rioting sense of humor! 🙂

  17. I heard of the name before…so I went and looked in a my huge box of not-read romances, and voila! I found ‘Down and Dirty’ by Sandra Hill! I moved her up to the top of the pile thanks to your review.
As far as historicals go, medievals are low on my list too (unless they are wearing a kilt, then I am THERE) but I admit, Vikings hold a certain appeal. Thanks for this review!

  18. I have my hand up here for not reading any of Sandra’s books but it will change now this book sounds really good and have added to my must have list. As for medivals I love them.

    Have Fun
    Helen

  19. What a fascinating book. I’d love to read it. Historicals are among my favorites and this one really resonates with me as I’ve recently discovered, in my own family, a possible Viking/Scottish connection. This book goes on my list.
    Joan

  20. I’ve never read one of Sandra Hill’s historicals. I would love to win a copy of Viking in Love. Thanks, Susan

  21. I have been a fan of Sandra Hill’s Viking series and Viking time travel series for about two years now. I’ve read every single one of those series and loved them. I am chomping at the bit to get hold of Viking In Love.

  22. I love Sandra Hill! She has written some awesome Viking time travel books as well as historicals and some great contemporaries too. She’s a wonderful writer with a great sense of humor, I highly recommend any of her books to those who haven’t had a chance to read them yet. And of course I’d love to win a copy of Viking in Love!

  23. Sandra Hill is one of my autobuys. I *adore* her books! She writes time travels, straight medievals, contemps and a couple post-Civil War historicals. I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of VIKING IN LOVE and once again had a great time losing myself in a sexy, sassy, laugh-out-loud Sandra Hill story.

Bev, in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of her books!

  24. All her Viking time travel and Viking stories are fantastic. I would love to read the latest Viking in Love.
Thanks so much for the chance to win one.

  25. I was surprised to read the first 10 (or so) responders had NOT read Sandra Hill … and then the new few responders had only read her contemporaries. Sandra writes Laugh Out Loud time traveling Vikings who become Navy Seals. Her other time traveling and contemporary books are just as fun – Sandra’s a gem!

  26. I really enjoy Sandra’s books! I haven’t read many of the Viking ones (so I’d love to win here) but adore her Cajun series–hot men and really humorous!

  27. I’ve never read Sandra Hill, but I want to read this book. It sounds fabulous! And I love the cover!!!

  28. I’ve always wanted to read a Sandra Hill book but I haven’t gotten around to it yet! I hear they are very funny and entertaining reads. I considered getting a time travel book by her.
I would also like to try a fellow SANDRA! 🙂

    Sandra

  29. I’ve read one of Sandra’s contemporaries – ‘Tall, Dark, and Cajun’ – It was quite enjoyable and also made me laugh. The catch is in the Cajun series, the first book in ‘The Love Potion’ which I didn’t realize but I was confused throughout the whole TDC book going, why wasn’t there a book for his older brother? Well, there was. Anyway, I plan to finish reading her Cajun series and may check out the others too, especially if I ended up winning. 😉

  30. I have one of her viking books on my TBR pile. She also writes a creole series. Her website reflects her sense of humor. I love a wicked sense of humor, they make stories so much more interesting.
I look forward to reading her books.

  31. I haven’t read Sandra Hill before but would love to give her a try! I enjoy medievals and good ones are hard to find. It sounds like this is a good one. 🙂

  32. Sandra Hill’s writing style is the same regardless of the genre–very, very funny. If you haven’t read her contemporaries yet, you’ve missed out.

  33. For those of you who have never read Sandra Hill, you are in for hours and hours of entertainment from one of the most talented authors around! I will take a day off work to spend with her Cajuns, and am now working my way through her Viking series. Very few authors can make me laugh out loud, no matter where I am, like Sandra. I can’t wait for the new book!!

  34. I love Sandra Hill because she makes me laugh…period. I like you was worried about the time period but it is good to know that, as always, it doesn’t matter the time period, Sandra makes us laugh and sigh!

  35. I love Sanda Hill’s books. I love her wordplay and the way those Vikings scratch their head over the strangeness of it all. I am looking forward to reading this book!

  36. I love love LOVE Sandra Hill’s books, if I ever need a pick-me-up I can always go to Sandra, she always makes me laugh out loud. I can’t wait to find this book-the only place to buy books here is Wal-Mart or K-Mart and they have terrible selections!!!!

  37. Thanks so much for all the comments. I’m very excited about my return to historical romance. Many thanks to those of you who have been my longtime supporters and a since welcome to those who’ve never tried my books. Laughter guaranteed! And, hey, don’t we all need a bit of that in these trying times?

  38. I LUV Sandra Hill!! I was looking for books set in New Orleans when I found her. I was in a used bookstore and an employee told me I HAD to read her books. I luv a good series and she has two I’ve read, the Jinx series and her Red Hot Cajuns. I will say I haven’t read the Viking books but I loved all her other stories. I just read a novella of hers in a holiday book last month. Tante LuLu is a hoot!!! The men are all hotter than hott. Sandra writes a funny and HOTT read. I’m waiting now for her newest Cajun book now. My only complaint is that she takes too long between her Cajun stories. Thanks, Sue

  39. I have read a couple of Sandra’s books and loved them!! I really loved Frankly, My Dear, it is one of my all time favorites!! I have never read one of her viking books and would love to win one and start reading. Happy Reading, Janean
