Maggie Robinson, who also writes for Berkley Sensation as Margaret Rowe, is one of my new author finds for 2010! Mistress By Mistake is a May Top Pick for The Season (you can read my review here) and her Courtesan Court trilogy only gets better with each book. I positively love her and her books, so please welcome Maggie to the blog.

~*~*~

I’m so honored to be at the beautiful Season!  I want to thank Bev for her support for my writing—she loves my books and consequently I love her, LOL. Writing and reading are so subjective, and when you write, you hope you’re going to touch someone else’s heart other than your own. Writers sometimes have trouble reading—it’s an occupational hazard. You think, “Hm. I would have done that differently.” Or, “Look at those point of view switches…adverbs…mechanical sex scenes…didn’t she use the same word two paragraphs above?” You get the idea. To get praise from another writer makes my heart sing.

Debut ~ April 27, 2010

In my bio on my website, I say there’s nothing I like better than writing about people who make mistakes, but don’t let the mistakes make them. In my debut Mistress by Mistake, quite a few mistakes get made along the way, the most significant being that the hero mistakes the heroine for her sister Deb, the mistress he has yet to master. Charlotte is in the wrong bed at the wrong time, but you know she’s the right woman for Bay. This is a romance after all. 🙂

Now I’m really clear—on page 2—that Bay has not enjoyed Deb’s favors before he finds himself tangled up with Charlie. There are some mistakes that are a little too icky even for me. 😉 But mostly I love flawed characters, people who have to fight their way up and out from difficult circumstances, whose childhoods have not been all popsicles and puppies, whose love lives require more Kleenex than Veuve Clicquot—people who take a licking and keep on ticking, as the old Timex ads used to say. And if they can do it with a sense of humor, they’ll have me at hello.

Who’s your favorite fighter in fiction? (Mine is Dare from Jo Beverley’s To Rescue a Rogue). Do you have a favorite mistake like Cheryl Crow? (Mine would be the philosophy major I dated in college) I’ve got a signed copy of Mistress by Mistake and some other good stuff to give away to a commenter!

  1. My favourite fighter in fiction… Tessa from the Passion. She was a fighter right to the end. No surprise that that is one of my fave books.

Fave mistake? I haven’t a clue. I’ll blame that on the fact that it’s too early for my brain to really think.

So excited for your double debut’s this year, Maggie! Couldn’t happen to a more talented, wonderful person!

  2. Surprise! Kensington Brava selected Mistress by Mistake as a free download e-book. from May 3 through May 6. What a deal, LOL. I only have the Amazon Kindle link so far: http://www.amazon.com/Mistress-By-Mistake-ebook/dp/B003CNQ4DY/?tag=discounter-20 I’ll update the info here at The Season and on my blog, http://www.maggierobinson.net/blog

Jane at Dear Author says on Twitter. “I enjoyed this book, folks.Go download.” http://bit.ly/c8xFs3

  3. Favorite fighter, that would be Eve Dallas from the In Death books by J.D.Robb. She is a tough no nonsense woman. Favorite mistake would be staying at a job longer than I should have. I can’t wait to read both of your books. I’ve been hearing a lot of good buzz about them.

  4. My favorite fighter is the hero from A Very Special Favor by Kristin James who fights with the heroine’s insecurities for her to believe in his love. She is plain and thinks the hero deserves someone more beautiful.

  5. Hmmm, my favorite fighter would probably be Stephanie Plum from the Janet Evanovich series…her stories are always so funny and she’s a fierce bounty hunter. 🙂 Plus there is all that will she or won’t she with the two, Ranger and Morelli.

My favorite mistake in life would have to be my ex-husband..I have a wonderful daughter but ugh, I just look at that period in my life and wonder where my head was!

  6. Morning, Tiff! Tiff is my early bird crit partner in crime–both of us write before work. Hope you have a great Monday!

Thanks, Donna! The reviews have been wonderful so far, but I’m waiting for the one that will make me cry. 🙂

Linda, I’m a huge Nora Roberts fan but I have never read J.D. Robb. Must do so.

Samantha, I hope you like them. My editor told me about the free downloads a little while ago, but I still don’t have all the links. Here’s the Barnes & Noble one for the nook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Mistress-By-Mistake/Maggie-Robinson/e/9780758260284

jcp, that looks like a book I need to read.

Lyoness, I love the Stephanie Plum books, and I can never decide if I’m in the babe or cupcake camp.

  7. I just downloaded onto my BlackBerry Kindle. Can’t wait to read it, MBM was on my to-buy list, thi sis like free candy! 🙂

My favorite fighter is Iain MacKinnon (or any of those MacKinnon Rangers actually) from Pamela Clare’s, SURRENDER. Amazingly sexy Scot.

  8. Happy Monday morning!!!!! I’ve read some great reviews about this book and can’t wait for a chance to read it. Love the cover too, wowza!

My favorite fighter would have to be Harry Pye from the book “The Leopard Prince” by Elizabeth Hoyt. He’s had a hard life and his lady friend is an actual lady, but he fights through the hardships, crazy family, fires and nabs the girl in the end. Love that book..and that series actually.

    Congratulations on the new release

  9. I have 2 favorite fighters of fiction. The first would have to be Derek Craven who appears in many Lisa Kleypas novels before becoming a hero in his own right in ‘Dreaming of You’. He’s a mad who picked himself up by the bootstraps and made a name and a fortune for himself. The second is Gemma Bradshaw, also from Lisa Kleypas books. She was the red-haired madam who turned Nick Gentry into a world-class lover in ‘Worth Any Price’.

  10. Dame. I don’t have a kindle yet. *cry* I’ve been wanting to read your book for awhile too.

I really can’t think of a favorite fighter. I’m sure there is one, but no-one is coming to mind. lol I can pinpoint a favorite mistake. That was being persuaded by my mother to be psychology major instead of a legal one at first. Now i’m stuck with a part psych part legal degree that i can find a job with.

  11. My favorite fighter is Sarantha Jax in the Jax series written by Ann Aguirre.

  12. jedi, I bought my husband a nook a couple of weeks ago, but I have not had a chance to sit still long enough to go over the directions. We can’t get wireless at home, but I don’t want him to read MBM anyway—he’ll wonder where I got my ideas. 😉

Jennifer, Ann and I share the same fabulous agent.

Karen, Lisa K is the queen of writing about men who struggle against adversity. Love her books.

Rachie, I am so lucky with my covers. Tempting Eden is beautiful too, and painted by the same artist, Alan Ayers.

Scorpio, I’m so glad I could make your Monday sweet!

  13. Hi Maggie! Just happy to see you here…. been thinking of you and your DH and hope everything is all right at your end. By the way, I’m 6 hours behind you on a rainy day here in Honolulu — too early to think of mistakes I’ve made! No need to include me for this giveaway (thank you!).

  14. Enjoyed reading the comments. I am always looking for new authors to read. I have added this book to my TBR list.
Yes, I have had a couple of mistakes and no, don’t want to go there now.
My favorite fictional fighter is Scarlett O Hara-she knew what she wanted and went after it even though her methods were a bit suspect. If she was rebuffed, she found a way. For all of her foibles, she had hope.

  15. Hi, Maggie! I am looking forward to reading MBM! Congrats to you on its release, woot, woot!

I’m not sure I have one fave hero, but, rather, each hero is my fave as I’m reading the story.

  16. Thanks, Joye. Yesterday someone asked me about Clark Gables as Rhett Butler, and today it’s Scarlett O’Hara. Must mean it’s time to watch GWTW again! Love Rhett’s line: No, I don’t think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That’s what’s wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.

    Sigh.

Aloha, etirv! It’s not supposed to rain in Hawaii. 🙁 Here in Maine, we’re taking it one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time, LOL. We’ll do okay because we have to.

Marjana, I’m a Derek Craven fan too.

  17. I’m totally blank on a favorite fighter. I think because I get into the book or charcter that I’m currently reading and then on to the next ect. and they’re all my favorite at the time lol. As to mistakes – probably waiting 15 years to have kids because my husband as an only child kind of like it that way – we now have two grown, wonderful girls.

  18. Congrats on your new book. The cover looks great.
Favorite mistake–I don’t even want to think about that. YUCK!!

  19. Catslady, my mind is a total sieve–cannot remember names, plots…somethimes of MY OWN BOOKS, LOL. I’m always in awe of peiople who read something five years ago and can discuss it intelligently.

runner10, when I first got my cover I was really wild with joy. Can’t wait to see what they do with Mistress by Midnight and Mistress by Marriage.

  20. My favorite fighter in fiction is Melissa in THE CATSWOLD PORTAL by Shirley Rousseau Murphy.
Favorite mistake? Dating a rapist in college! He didn’t rape me though….

    Hi Maggie,
I look forward to reading MISTRESS! 🙂

  21. I would have to say Sir Ross Cannon of the Bow Street Runners in Lisa Kleypas’ “Lady Sophia’s Lover”. Wow, I took to him in a big way. And he is a fighter!! All the best for your release!

  22. My favorite fighter is Eve Dallas from JD Robb’s In Death series. From an abused child to a police officer—that took guts.

  23. Hi Maggie dear,

I’ve been gone all day, it seems, but I’m back. Thanks so much for coming on the blog and giving us readers Mistress By Mistake. And I went on Amazon today and also downloaded a kindle copy. 🙂
    Happy sales sweetie!

  24. Hi Maggie,
    I enjoyed reading your post.
I can’t think of any favorite fighters in my romance books!
Your new book looks really good and romantic and it has such a pretty cover!
Thanks for stopping by and chatting with us! 🙂

  25. My favorite fighter would have to be Riley Jenson from Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series. My favorite mistake would be letting my old boyfriend go and then moving across the country from him before we got back in touch.

  26. Congrats on your new release! I have been seeing this book around the blogs lately and I want to read it sooo bad! Please pick me!

  27. Quilt Lady, if you’ve got a Kindle or a nook, you can download it for FREE! Right now , it’s the #1 romance on Amazon, which simply means that FREE works, LOL.

Barbara, nice to see you! 🙂

Chey, I read Outlander only recently. I know, where was I?

Sandra, I’m so happy to be here. In fact, I’m happy to be anywhere. 😉

Estella, I see I’m going to have to put the Robb books on my TBR list.

Bev, thanks so much for this opportunity. Glad you could take advantage of the Kensington Brava deal!

  28. No need to enter my name into the drawing!

    Yay, Maggie!!!

I think my favorite fighter in romance is Jinan from Tiffany Clare’s upcoming book, The Surrender of a Lady (Oct. 2010). No matter what life throws in Jinan’s way, she always comes back and becomes stronger than who she used to be.

  29. Have seen this book all over and like the story line. I am intrigued how their relationship progresses.
I like Julie Garwood’s characters, especially in her historical books. Her heroes are all strong and fighting for what is right. Her heroines are no shrinking violets. They have their moments when they must be rescued, but they stand up for themselves and will fight alongside their man.
Brodick Buchanon and Gillian from Garwood’s RANSOM are two strong fighters and make a perfectly wonderful couple.

  30. Maggie congrats on “Mistress By Mistake” being May’s Top Pick!

Who’s your favorite fighter in fiction?
A: Most of the alpha heroes in my favorite books are fighters making it hard to pick just one, so I’m going with a heroine instead, Scarlett O’Hara.
Do you have a favorite mistake like Cheryl Crow?
    A: I have a Bachelor’ Degree I never used.

  31. My favorite fighter (at the moment) is Michael Stirling from Julia Quinn’s: When he was wicked. He loves her SO much and first can’t have her and yet he goes on. Very powerful story and I just love him.

  32. Hi Maggie,
I can’t wait to read MBM. As for a favorite fighter # 1 is definitely Jamie Fraser…sigh… from The Outlander books and then Devil Cynster from Stephanie Laurens Cynster books.

  33. I hate to say it but I don’t have a favorite fighter. I’ve been seeing this book getting good reviews for a little while now and I’d love to read it.

  34. Congrats on your new release and wonderful reveiws! I don’t think I have a favorite firefighter! But I do have a few mistakes that I would like to do over! I have been hearing good things about this book and would love to read it!

  35. Mistress By Mistake sounds amazing, Maggie!

My absolute favorite fighter would be… I guess it depends. I usually “love” the current hero I’m reading about and I’m sure my friends get sick and tired of me changing “love interests” as fast as I read. LOL, the one man I always think about is Valerius Magnus from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. Now that Roman is one hot-sexy-warrior. 😉

As for favorite mistakes, well.. now that would take me all day.
