Best and Worst Romantic Valentines Gifts

Woot!  It’s that time of year, almost time for the most romantic of holidays.  Valentine’s Day.  Or as some guys like to call it, the ticking time bomb on the calendar.  Oh no, I’m not saying all guys are Valentine’s duds.  Just, you know, a few I’ve dated in years past.  Which is why I love reading romances.  No duds here, just hot, sexy hunks who know how to show a girl a really good time on Valentine’s Day.  In my latest book, BREAKING THE RULES, my hero Max creates the ultimate perfect romantic Valentine’s for Sophia.  I can’t give away what it is, but I do think it would make the Best Romantic Valentine’s Gift list.

Since I couldn’t share Max’s Valentine’s treat, I thought I’d share my Best and Worst list…

The best and worst Romantic Valentines Gifts:

  • Best: Shiny Jewelry
  • Worst: Shiny Jewelry charged to YOUR credit card
  • Best: Sexy lingerie
  • Worst: Slutty lingerie
  • Best: Yummy handmade truffles
  • Worst: Cheap candy from the drug store
  • Best: A gift certificate for a couples massage
  • Worst: A court order for couples therapy
  • Best: A bouquet of favorite flowers
  • Worst: A convenience store rose in a plastic tube

How about you?  What were your best and worst Valentine’s Gifts?

To celebrate the release of BREAKING THE RULES, I’m giving away a backlist book of the winner’s choice to one commenter today!

BREAKING THE RULES BLURB:

What do you get when you mix a military hero on a mission with an independent artist hell-bent on proving something?  A battle that can only be won between the sheets.

Sophia Castillo is finally calling the shots in her life, and she’s determined to stay in charge.  The last thing she needs is a babysitter.  Not even a babysitter as sexy as US Army Sergeant First Class and EOD Squad Leader, Maximillian St. James.  But when someone is sabotaging her art gallery, she turns to Max for help.  When he proves to be a challenge to her independence, she lays down their relationship rules.  Hot sex, good times and a lot of laughs are all good.  Anything involving their hearts is strictly off limits.  Before they catch the vandal, Max and Sophia both have to decide just which rules they are willing to break, and how high a price they are willing to pay.

Be sure and check out my upcoming party!

Valentines Party!

I’m so excited that my tenth release, BREAKING THE RULES, is on shelves now!  I loved writing this story, because it focuses on something near and dear to my heart – a Military Hero (my own hero-hubby was in the Army).  Even more fun was making this a Valentine’s story, complete with hearts and flowers.

To celebrate, I’m having an invitation-only Valentine’s Day Party!  Including:

©      A downloadable short story written just for this party as a door prize for everyone who attends

©      A sexy Top Ten to wind up my Top Ten tour: Ten Tips for a Hot Valentine’s Night

©      One lucky person will win a Valentine’s Basket!

All you have to do to join the fun is go to the Breaking the Rules Valentines Party page on my website, and RSVP!

  1. Hello Tawny

Once again I have to say I adore the book cover and I am dying to read this one , and this valentines party idea of yours is stunning ! Thank you also to the season blog for the great contests ! Best valentines present was actually from my son , he got me this big basket full of sweets, roses and a big white teddy bear , worst valentines gifts has never really happend to me as to me it is the thought that counts !

    All the best
    Desere

  2. Hi Tawny,

Max is Hot, Hot, Hot…I can’t wait to read this one! The worst Valentine’s gift I ever got was socks and the best, a car! What can I say, I’m spoiled!!! I hope you have a fabulous Valentine’s Day!

  3. Best Valentine’s Day present from my hubby was the traditional dozen long-stemmed red roses when we’d been dating for about 6 months. He sent them early so I could enjoy them the whole week. I remember how my office was the farthest down the corridor…I had to walk past every single consultant on my floor (all men) carrying this enormous vase & bouquet. Apparently it provoked more than one to action! He still buys me flowers on Valentine’s Day…and now he also brings them for our daughter. So sweet.

Had several Valentine’s Days with no presents at all (not with hubby) and those weren’t fun.

  4. My best Valentine’s Day present from my husband was for our very first V-Day. We had only been dating for a month and he gave me a huge teddy bear & a beautiful blue topaz pendant. He knew topaz was my birthstone & that I didn’t like yellow topaz. It was the first time a man had ever given me jewelry. We were Sophomores in college so I know he must have barely been able to afford it. My only bad present would be cheap chocolate from the drug store. He is usually a Godiva buyer but I think he waited to late. I love chocolate so it didn’t go to waste.

Congratulations on your new release! What an awesome cover!

  5. My husband usually does the traditional flowers and candy. The best was a trip to New Orleans! This year I am so excited, my youngest son won a contest by submitting a letter and picked from 200 and will be asking his lovely girlfriend to marry him on T.V. we are beyond excited!! She has no idea!

Beautiful cover and I am looking forward to reading your story!

  6. Enjoyed reading the list of best and worst. I think I have received a lot of the worst gifts. Men are such incompetent shoppers. Oh well, Happy Valentine’s Day. Your book sounds really great.

  7. I’m looking forward to reading Breaking All The Rules. Max sounds delicious. 🙂 My very best Valentine’s gift was the 2nd Valentine’s day my first husband and I celebrated. He gave me beautiful red and pink roses with an engagement ring. It truly was unexpected and beautiful. The worst was 11 years later after we were married and he gave me a bracelet with someone elses name on it. 🙂 That’s why I listed him as my “ex” lol.

  8. The book sounds wonderful and I married my sailor 41 years ago – military men rock!

Best Valentine – Celebrating my 1 week anniversary on Valentines Day Feb. 1970. Worst – when same husband previously mentioned gave me a broom one year later! He redeemed him many times over since then!

  9. My husband is usually a Valentine dud. But one time he bought a pair of ear rings and had them place inside a ballon with a white rose and since he usually doesn’t do anything on Valentines day I was reallly thrilled.

  10. Love the post, Tawny! And congrats on the release of Breaking The Rules!

We’re not big on Valentine’s Day here but one year when we were first married my husband bought me a recycling bin for V-day *g* It was too funny to get mad about 🙂

  11. Hi Desere, and thank you again 🙂 I’m so totally gaga over this cover. He is HAWT! I hope you do enjoy reading BREAKING THE RULES and have fun at the Valentines party *g* I’m putting together goodies for hit now!

And wow! What a lovely Valentines gift. And what a great son for putting something like that together for you 🙂 You have such a wonderful attitude about the gifts. The thought really does count, doesn’t it 🙂

  12. SWEEET! A car, Kacie? Now that is one fabulous gift 😀 LOL over the socks as a gift… did they at least have hearts on them?

Thanks tons for the Max love 😀 I can’t wait to hear what you think after you read his story!! Let me know, okay?

  13. Hi Babs 🙂 No presents at all is a bummer for sure.

But it sounds like you’ve got a fabulous winner of a hubby?! Not only does he shower you with romantic flowers, but he’s teaching your daughter to expect to be treated well, too. I love that in a man 😀

  14. Awwww, a big ole teddy bear? That’s so sweet, Stacie 🙂 And the necklace sounds gorgeous. What a great guy.

LOL on the not quite Godiva chocolates, but as long as it tastes good, it works, right?

Thanks so much on the congrats. I love this cover, and so so love this hero. I hope readers do as well 🙂

  15. Oh WOW!!! Jane, that is so awesome. Talk about exciting. Congratulations to your son and future daughter-in-law. Won’t they have a wonderful ‘how we got engaged’ story 😀

Thank you so much for the cover-love 😀 I hope you enjoy BREAKING THE RULES – let me know, okay?

  16. OMG Carol!?!? A bracelet with another woman’s name on it? Yeah, ex, indeed! But the roses and engagement ring Valentines sounds like a winner 😀

I love that description of Max. Delicious 😀

  17. Welcome, Tawny!!! So nice to have you on the blog today. BREAKING THE RULES looks delicious. The cover is hot!

You hit mine the nail on the head, although I can’t remember if it was my birthday or Valentine’s, but sapphire earrings bought with my money. 😀

  18. Breaking the Rules sounds wonderful and Max sounds really hot! I think he and Sophia will make an absolutely awesome and explosive couple.

The best gift my DH gave me was a diamond necklace and the worst was a can opener. Usually he gives me roses and takes me out to dinner.

Looking forward to your Valentine’s Day party!

  19. I am looking forward to reading this one!

I don’t have a worst Valentine’s gift. My husband always gives me plants, so I can enjoy them for years to come.

  20. Woot! A round of applause for hottie military men, Jeanne 🙂 I’m with you -they definitely rock. And ROFL – a broom? Really? One year my husband gave me a set of knives… Oh, I had fun with that 🙂

  21. Hi Beverly and thank you 😀 It’s great to be here, and I’m so glad you like my hunky cover *g* I adore Max and was thrilled to see him so sex on the cover!!

Wince on the sapphire earrings you bought yourself 😉 I hope they were a style you liked, after that LOL.

  22. Hey Tawny,
Congrats on your tenth release. You are spot on with your best and worst list. It has happened to me yet, but I would love to be surprised with a ticket to Tahiti.

  23. Hi Cathie 🙂 Thanks for the Max-love, he is a doll. And he thinks he and Sophia will be explosive, too. Her, she’s not quite as sure LOL. Or I should say, she’s not sure she wants any explosions in her life 😀

From diamonds to a can opener, huh? Your hubby has definitely covered the entire range of Valentines gifting, hasn’t he? LOL

  24. Hi Estella 🙂

I hope you enjoy BREAKING THE RULES!! And plants are such a fabulous gift idea! I love the idea of something that stays alive and lovely for years to come, always a reminder of Valentine’s love.

  25. Oh Jane… tickets to Tahiti? Now that would absolutely top the best list, wouldn’t it?! Fingers crossed you get your dream Valentines gift someday 😀

  26. Um, can I have the guy on the cover for my Valentine’s gift? I’m sure that would be the best gift ever lol. The worst gift I ever got was a card… made out to someone else. But the best was a ring from Tiffany’s, not of the diamond variety but still very nice.

  27. The worst, a breadbox. The best, a dozen yellow roses. Now I settle for valentines from my grandkids and that is enough for me.

  28. LOL, Jamie, you can have that cover for your very own if you have the book. But the dude himself? I’m not quite sure just exactly how to get him for you 😀 I would if I could, though. Ugh on the card for someone else. That’s messed up. But a ring box from Tiffany’s… heck, any box from Tiffany’s? GREAT gift 🙂

  29. Hi Linda. Oh wow, a breadbox, huh? I think the roses are definitely better. I will admit, one year my husband gave me a breadbox too. But I’d been asking for one for awhile, and he took a special woodworking class at night to make it for me. I’m pretty sure it was a birthday gift, though, not Valentines 😀

Aren’t Valentines from kids extra sweet?

  30. Pardon the yawns, but I was up ’til the wee hours reading a book in which I was totally enwrapped! Love that Max and Sophia!
Just one thing, I’m the eldest of five Castillo sisters and not one of us is over 5’2″ tall. Add in all the daughters & female cousins,
we still don’t come in anywhere near 5’10” in height! Just thought I’d share!

Back to the question: Can’t say that I’ve ever received a Valentine’s gift that would qualify as “worst.” The best was 1962 when
our eldest son & first child was born on February 14!

  31. Hi Tawny!!
I loved reading your blog post! I have many of your Harlequin Blaze books. And your latest book BREAKING THE RULES looks really good. I like the plot and especially the San Francisco location!

I can’t think of any bad Valentines Day gifts I ever had. They were all pretty good!
I’m so happy you stopped by the Season Blog to talk to us! 🙂

  32. Not traditional “gifts.”

My best Valentine’s “gift”: I got pregnant for our first daughter.

My worst Valentine’s “gift”: I went into labor for our second daughter.

And yes, both did happen on Valentine’s Day. Our second daughter wasn’t born until the 15th. I guess we like holidays, our son was born on Thanksgiving.

  33. HI Sandra 🙂 YAY, I’m so glad you like the post! And even happier that you’ve enjoyed my stories. Thank you so much!!! San Francisco is one of my favorite locales. It’s simply gorgeous, and there is so much fun and variety to explore in the Bay Area.

That’s a fabulous record, not having bad gifts 🙂 You must have great gift-givers LOL.

And this was a wonderful day – I had so much fun here at The Season for Romance blog!!

  34. Pat 😀 I almost missed your post, yikes, sorry about that. LOL on the yawns!! YAY!!! I’m so thrilled you enjoyed the story! WOW on 5 Castillo sisters 😀 I’ll bet that made growing up fun. I always wished I had sisters.

And wow on the fab Valentine’s gift. You and LibraryPat were definitely blessed with the best gifts ever!!

  35. And again..Hello, Tawny! I just posted comments for you in another blog. 🙂
The worst Valentine gift I’ve ever received was naughty lingerie while I was going through breast cancer treatment. Bestowed upon me by an abusive ex.
The best gift I’ve received was the champagne and white diamond ring I got last year from my hubby.
Can’t wait to read BREAKING THE RULES. As I said in my other post, the guy on the cover is hot! A delicious Valentine treat! lol!

  36. Hey there, Mel 😀 How are you *g*

Oh man, what a lousy horrible gift!!! And what a lousy, horrible ex. I’m glad he’s in the past!

But I love your last years’ gift 😀 Your hubby has wonderful taste!

Thanks for the BREAKING THE RULES love!!! Isn’t Max a total hottie?! I’m glad you like him 😀
