FEVER CURE  by Phillipa Ashley

Samhain   Amazon Kindle

A sexy, racy love story filled with emotion, humour and steamy hot romance.

Fever Cure is one of those contemporary romances that totally makes you wish you were the heroine. How can a girl not want to meet a gorgeous British doctor who also happens to be the son of an earl and rich as can be? The fact that he is also a really nice, down to earth guy doesn’t hurt either. If you are a fan of realistic contemporary romances with truly appealing characters, then this is a read for you!

Keira is a quiet school teacher getting over a bad relationship when she meets the man of her dreams. Unfortunately for Keira, the honorable Dr. Tom Carew is in London only for a short time and he is totally off limits. But neither one of them can overcome the intense attraction they feel for each other even knowing the relationship has no future. So they begin a passionate affair that brings them on an adventure to love neither one of them expects. No strings, no complications – that was the agreement but now both Tom and Keira want more from an impossible situation.

The plot is typical of a contemporary relationship that starts out all about sex and turns into more. But the book is saved from being boring and predictable by the authors witty humour and solid, flowing dialogue. The characters are also completely appealing and genuine which attracts the reader to their story.

Keira has that good girl, elementary school teacher vibe that men seem to be crazy about. I like that she knows what she wants and tries to stick to her guns as long as possible when it comes to her attraction to Tom. She puts up a fight rather than giving in too easily or quickly and I found myself totally wishing I was in her shoes. She has a great attitude and great view of life which makes her one of my favorite contemporary heroines.

Dr. Tom screams sex in a lab coat. Doctor McHotty just about makes the reader swoon with his laid back attitude and natural sensuality. The fact that he can’t resist Keira and is not afraid to show it rockets up his appeal completely. He has some secrets however, and a painful past that prevents him from being truly happy and pursuing Keira with his whole heart. A wounded, sexy hero… yes please!

This is the first story I have read by Phillipa Ashley but it will definitely not be the last one. I enjoyed her writing style very much and her character development was spot on. I felt a part of Keira and Tom’s love story and I was drawn to her other characters like Su and Tom’s brother; I like it when an author takes the time to develop her side characters as well.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to contemporary romance fans as well as historical fans who would love to picture a modern romance with a touch of old-school traditional London in the backdrop.

  1. I read my first book by Phillipa this year–Dating Mr. December. I might have to give this one a try. Thanks for the review.

  2. I read very few contemporary books, guess i prefer the romance of historicals. But if this author is as good as you say and has witty humor and great dialogue maybe I will give it a try.

  3. This book seems to have all the elements I look for so I will definitely check this one out. (And I like the title, too!)
Thank you for the review —

  4. Phillipa Ashley did an amazing job! I bought this book a month ago in New York. With business meetings going on all week I needed a break, spotted my favorite book store I love to visit, and found Fever Cure. Ashley’s fantastic writing held my attention throughout the night. Let’s just say, I found Fever Cure very difficult to put down, and went to my meeting the next day, tired, yet eager to read the last few chapters. Thanks for such a great book Phillipa Ashley!

    1. I’d like to clarify something… I bought this book through my B&N App and read it off my Droid X. I couldn’t find the actual book in the store, which was a bummer, considering the letters on my phone are much smaller.

  5. What a great review. Thanks. I’ve got Phillipa Ashley’s DATING MR. DECEMBER. I’ll be sure to move that up the list once I’m done with my review books.

  6. I enjoyed the review. Fever Cure sounds like a great story and I’m looking forward to checking it out.

  7. Hi there – I know I shouldn’t keep dropping by as I don’t want to stifle any debate (!) but I have to say I’m overwhelmed by the response to the review.

Mikki – thank you for downloading it. The good news is that it will be available in paperback early next years in stores and online. I have another book out before that – featuring characters from the opening of Fever Cure. It’s called Carrie Goes off the Map and the hero is a doctor colleague of Tom’s.

Lexi – it’s funny you should say you like historicals as I was only mentioning to a friend last week that quite a lot of Regency romances are bought with Fever Cure and my other books by my UK readers (published by Sourcebooks – I’m one of their British Book Babes.) I am a huge fan of Jane Austen and studied her work at Oxford so I love witty banter. That’s not to say I would dare even dream of comparing any of my books to hers (!!!) but you know what I mean: she has definitely been an influence on me andf I’m obsessed with costume dramas. When Lifetime made my first book, Dating Mr December, into a movie, the producer/writer was a mega Austen fan so he decided to inject some P&P elements into the adaptation. The book and movie are very different but you still get the gist. Anyway, I’d better shut up because I could rattle on all say about Jane Austen….

My final word, if you love British contemporary romance and historical fiction, is to watch the web and my website over the next few weeks…

  8. I have DATING MR. DECEMBER on my TBR mountain. I will be pulling it out to see what I am missing. I like the sound of FEVER CURE. Old values injected into modern society work pretty well. Keep putting those good books out there for us to read.

    Phillipa, Thanks for the review.

  9. Nice review! I have Fever Cure on my Kindle. Next week I’m going on vacation and maybe I’ll finally have time to read it!
