betweenthesheetsAfter years of running, Wyatt Svenson has now parked himself in Bishop, Arkansas, trying to do the right thing and parent a son he didn’t even know he had until recently. Over six feet tall and packed with muscles and power, Ty likes to get his hands dirty, fixing his motorcycle at night and keeping his mind away from the mistakes he’s made. Then his pretty neighbor shows up on his driveway, doesn’t bother to introduce herself, and complains about the noise. First impression? She should loosen up. Funny that she turns out to be his son’s elementary school art teacher—and the only one willing to help his troubled boy. Ty needs her. In more ways than one.

Though Shelby Monroe is safe in her structured life, she is drawn to Ty’s bad-boy edge and rugged sexuality. What if she just lets it all go: her worries about her mother, her fear of heartbreak, and her tight self control? What if she grabs Ty and takes a ride on the wild side? “What if” becomes reality—intense, exhilarating . . . and addictive. But Ty wants more than a secret affair. He wants it all with Shelby. But will she take a chance and open her heart? Ty is determined to convince Shelby to take the biggest risk of her life: on him.

Shelby Monroe is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. An ex of hers has publicly humiliated her in front of the world by revealing her scandalous bedroom antics. Suffering from the stares and constant whispers behind her back, she has created a wall around herself. She throws herself into art and her students, hoping to fill a void in her life. When the new kid in school starts to misbehave, she becomes close to him and the child’s father.

Wyatt Svenson (nicknamed Ty) moved his son, Casey, to Bishop for a fresh new start. Ty is not sure what to do with his son as he continues to be called in to the school each day for Casey’s problematic behavior.  When his neighbor and art teacher suggest that Ty enrolls his son in an after-school activity and seek art therapy, Ty takes the opportunity to get close to Shelby.

Shelby has a lot of issues that stems from her strict and religious upbringing. Her father was very controlling and abusive. Her behavior throughout the book is understandable but at times turns me off. She uses Ty sexually to help her feel alive but rejects any emotional connection with him. She constructs walls around herself that he has to knock down. Once he got through one barrier there was another in its place. It took me a really long time to get to a place where I liked Shelby.

Ty, on the other hand, is adorable. He has his share of issues but he deals with it like an adult. He ends up building a relationship with his son, Casey. Shelby hides her mother’s illness but Ty gently pushes his way into her life, making her see that he doesn’t only want her to use him as a sexual tool.

Overall, this is still a pretty good read. The heavy subject matter makes it a little bit more daunting than I had anticipated but I’m glad I read it.
