After Emma Davis’s first week at Danvers International, she’s convinced her boss will drive her crazy…

Being the assistant to uptight workaholic Brant Stone is more than Emma can bear. But in her weaker moments, she can’t help but admit that the sexy control freak can turn her on with an insult more than any man she’s ever met…

So when Emma gains an unexpected advantage, she blackmails Brant into accompanying her to her high school reunion. After all, the enemy she knows is preferable to a blind date arranged by her meddling mother.

But before they realize what’s happening, they are doing more than acting the part…they’re living it. The war that has been raging between them shifts playing fields to the bedroom, as hate turns to lust and then to something so much more…

I’ve never read a book by Sydney Landon and I’m starting to wonder why. I’ll say this is one of my new authors for the month of December and she’s well worth the risk.

Landon continues her Danvers series, book number five, with an enemies to lover’s trope. Who loves hero and heroine at each other’s necks until they fall in love and don’t expect it? Everyone, of course, including me. From the get go the characters are getting under each other’s skin, but both of them love doing it… a little too much.

Our hero, Brant, is a stuck up, prude of the first order so when the heroine, Emma, remembers him from a sexy fraternity calendar pose in college, she decides to capitalize on the inside information and blackmail her boss into being her date for her high school reunion. Because outside of being stuck-up and annoying this guy is, and I quote (from the book): ‘perfectly f***able until he opens his mouth.’ —words our lovely heroine utters to his face.

Surprisingly, our lovely hero sticks in for the long haul, which turns into some unforgettable, scorching encounters. In the course of a day or two, both Emma and Brant are doing less of being annoying to each other and more about how they can be nice and make this whole thing last beyond one crazy weekend.

I loved the first half of this book, the sexual tension building to insane levels and some hijinks that bared repeating to at least three people over the phone. Yes, I literally told three people about this book over the phone. Both characters were refreshing and their characters changed in appropriate stages. Compared to the insanity of the beginning of the book, the second half fell a little flat and then there were a couple of things that shocked me, but not in a fun and crazy way. Sorry, no spoilers. I’ll only say that the book is polar opposites when it comes to hilarious first half and not-so-hilarious second half. A rollercoaster of emotions, which made it hard for me to believe in the HEA at the end.

Overall, I’m interested in reading more from Landon. This book had some moments I won’t forget and at the very least it will be a book that will stick in my mind for a long time. If you enjoy books that do that I recommend this one. For fans of Victoria Dahl.
