From two bestselling authors—the first in a deliciously bold new series that takes readers to the most dangerous edge of desire . . .

Nikolai: I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all spoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you’d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small, scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy: I’ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Home-schooled and farm-raised, I’m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best about people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he’s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man who has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk . . . and also, my life.

Nikolai has a job to do. As a contract killer his new assignment leaves him in close proximity to shy and damaged young woman. Daisy is not in the plan for Nikolai but he finds himself watching her closely and he will do whatever it takes to protect her.

Daisy grew up in a rundown farmhouse with her agoraphobic father. After losing her mother from a brutal crime, her father shut them up in their house with few provisions for leaving the house. She is tired of being locked away from the world and she takes a chance to escape. Her new found freedom is great but when the sexy man who has been following her brings danger to her door, she has to really think about what freedom really is.

I love me a bad boy. Add in the mafia and danger and I’m in heaven. I love everything about Nikolai. He is strong and protective. He is the total alpha and makes no apologies for it. He is stalker-ish and crazy about Daisy but there is something old world and charming about him. He knows that he needs to leave her alone because he is in town to complete a mission but he can’t resist the urge to claim her for himself.

Daisy is a tortured soul. Her past makes her innocent and naïve at times but her gut instincts steers her to Nikolai. Normally I don’t like the silly and too sugary sweet heroines but Daisy is appealing as a female counterpart for Nik. The sex scenes are steaming hot. Nik claims every inch of Daisy.

I can see how this can be a little too dark or disturbing for others. Nikolai can come across as creepy but what makes this work is that Nikolai wants to be as good of a man as he can be for Daisy. His past in the Russian mafia left him a ruthless and cold killer. It is as much a part of him as loving Daisy is.

Since I’m totally down for obsessive and controlling alpha males at the moment, I plan to devour this series.
