a daring arrangement joanna shupe

Set in New York City’s Gilded Age, Joanna Shupe’s Avon debut introduces an English beauty with a wicked scheme to win the man she loves–and the American scoundrel who ruins her best laid plans…

Lady Honora Parker must get engaged as soon as possible, and only a particular type of man will do. Nora seeks a mate so abhorrent, so completely unacceptable, that her father will reject the match–leaving her free to marry the artist she loves. Who then is the most appalling man in Manhattan? The wealthy, devilishly handsome financier, Julius Hatcher, of course….

Julius is intrigued by Nora’s ruse and decides to play along. But to Nora’s horror, Julius transforms himself into the perfect fiancé, charming the very people she hoped he would offend. It seems Julius has a secret plan all his own–one that will solve a dark mystery from his past, and perhaps turn him into the kind of man Nora could truly love.

I have read Joanna Shupe in the past and all I can say is I love her writing! Her writing takes you on a journey back through time to the glittering ballrooms of New York, the bars of Thirtieth Street, and the offices of Wall Street.

The antics of the hero and heroine in this story made me smile from ear to ear as I read this story. Like the part when Nora meets the Julius in a hotel celebrating his birthday in a ballroom on a horse, and then proposes a fake engagement.  Nora is an earl’s daughter who was sent to America after she is caught with an artist she thinks she is in love with. She comes up with a plan to cause a scandal with Julius Hatcher so she will be sent back to England to Robert the man she loves.

Julius Hatcher is a hero who is trying to get accepted to upper class in New York to discover the identity of the men were who invested with his father and backed out of the deal when the banks collapsed.  His family lost everything including his father taking his life.  He vowed to get revenge and the only way was to accept Nora’s proposal. Nora wants to cause a scandal and Julius is trying to protect her from scandal.

The sexual tension when these two are together makes the sparks fly off the page. It was great to watch as Nora and Julius’s fake engagement become something more. The love scenes in this story were so hot and steamy I had to fan myself as I was reading this book.  This book was a real page turner to the very end.  I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance with revenge, steamy love scenes, and of course, love.
