I will fully admit to being completely biased when it comes to books by Ms. Jefferies. I absolutely worship her and will read anything she has written without even looking at the write up. But, when life got in the way, I stopped reading for so long that I totally missed the first 4 books in this series – yes, I know… how can I call myself a fan – and jumped into this series fresh and new. I am pleased to say that I had no problem keeping up with the characters and sub-characters who may have appeared in previous books and this newest treat from one of my fav writers can be picked up by a newbie with nothing lost.

Gregory, Baron Fulkham, is an important political player and a spymaster. He has encountered many people over the course of his business but one beautiful and talented actress gets under his skin and leaves her mark on him; even 3 years later, he has not forgotten the stunning Monique Servais. As part of his duties to the foreign office, he is asked to escort the Princess of Chanay during her stay in London and her bid for the crown of Belgium. Imagine his shock when he finds none other than Monique impersonating the princess. She vehemently denies her true identity and plays her part as princess to perfection, even though she can’t seem to stop kissing the alluring Baron Fulkham. But when several attempts are made on her life, she must confide in the man who has haunted her dreams for many years and put her faith and trust in him. But can she stop herself from losing her heart to him while he protects her from losing her life?

I was sucked into this sexy love story from beginning to end. The dynamic between Gregory and Monique was positively sizzling and kept me turning page after page. I just love the way Ms. Jefferies writes her character’s journey and this book was no exception. She keeps the reader’s attention with powerful love scenes, heartfelt moments of sincerity, and a story that would not suck if it were not primarily a romance novel. I believed the attraction between Gregory and Monique and wanted them to admit to each other and to themselves that they were always meant to be. Both characters felt like friends and I was very happy with the way the book progressed and their happy ending.

Monique is such an electrifying woman who takes matters into her own hands when things go wrong. I enjoyed the fact that she did not play the damsel in distress even when her life was in danger. She is the perfect match for the large-and-in-charge Gregory who will do anything to protect the woman he is quickly falling in love with and spares no time trying to get to the bottom of the assassination attempts.  I like no nonsense characters and the author delivers that in spades. If you like a book that has action, deception, steamy love scenes and a great happy ending then this is the book you need to pick up next.

I highly recommend this and every other book Ms. Jefferies has written and hope you run out and read the rest of the books in this series as soon as possible… I know I will.
