Review ❤️ My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single.

So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic.

But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine” and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship…but Millie can’t resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best friend, forever.

Millie Morris is really one of the guys. She lives for her guy friends, her career as a professor and the occasional true crime fiction. Yes, she loves a good serial killer! After getting slightly tipsy from celebrating with the guys, she makes the mistake of sleeping with her best friend, Reid.

Reid is gorgeous and insanely smart. He is also a professor. He happens to be the closest to Millie out of all the guys. Once they cross the line that night, it is hard to not get everything confused.

The guys agree that everyone would create an online persona through a dating app and see how they all fair out in love. Millie strikes out and the guys suggest that she update her profile. She creates a new one as “Catherine” and when she is immediately matched with Reid, she decides to have a little fun.

Reid and Millie struggle with their new developing feelings as Reid scores with Catherine and another female on the app. Millie wants to tell Reid the truth but she gets competitive and she loves that she feels able to share more with Reid in this way. She knows this may get ugly as her feelings start to grow and the guilt of keeping this away from her friends intensifies.

I love a good friends-to-lovers trope and this one fit the bill. Reid is genuine good guy. He finds difficulty in balancing his feelings for Millie and the connection he feels with Catherine. I knew this would blow up but I kept reading thinking that it would be all good.

When it all comes to light, the authors do a great job with the Reid and Millie’s character development. I connected with Millie when she realized she shouldn’t have to be afraid to share her feelings with anyone. Each one of the letters won me over and I waited with her for the conclusion.

The silly goofy moments of the book is what took some of the tension away. I loved all of the guys and wanted to see how each of them would get a mate. Maybe the authors will think of that down the line. In the meantime, this is just a light-hearted, fun and ridiculously entertaining romantic comedy.
