Review ❤️ Can’t Escape Love by Alyssa Cole

March 19, 2019

cant escape love alyssa cole

Alyssa Cole delivers another fun, sexy romance novella in the Reluctant Royals series!

Regina Hobbs is nerdy by nature, businesswoman by nurture. She’s finally taking her pop culture-centered media enterprise, Girls with Glasses, to the next level, but the stress is forcing her to face a familiar supervillain: insomnia. The only thing that helps her sleep when things get this bad is the deep, soothing voice of puzzle-obsessed live streamer Gustave Nguyen. The problem? His archive has been deleted.

Gus has been tasked with creating an escape room themed around a romance anime…except he knows nothing about romance or anime. Then mega-nerd and anime expert Reggie comes calling, and they make a trade: his voice for her knowledge. But when their online friendship has IRL chemistry, will they be able to escape love?

Reggie is moving her online blog to the next level. She and the girls are moving at such a fast rate and Reggie is running on fumes. She suffers from insomnia and the only thing that seems to calm her into sleep is the sound of a fellow geek who solves puzzles online. When his presence goes missing, Reggie searches for him and proposition him for her voice.

This book amazed me. I am so shocked by how short, quick and fun this story is. Reggie is such a strong female character. She is disabled but she doesn’t let that hold it down. She is a boss chick who is use to getting what she wants. She likes comics and all this cool anime stuff which is so refreshing.

I will admit that the concept of Reggie needing Gus to speak to her at night so she could sleep seem a bit far fetch. I went with the concept because I wanted to see how the author would pull off a live in person relationship. After a few sessions on the phone, Reggie agrees to help Gus build this escape room for anime con. This is a big deal for Reggie and her crew as they plan to be there. Reggie invites Gus over and the attraction is mutual. They bond over the process and fall into a physical relationship which was steamy!

I liked Gus for Reggie. I felt he liked her way more than she liked him. He is smart and socially awkward but he fit in her world. Even when she started to shut him off, he stayed patient with her.

For fans who have read the 2nd book like me, they get to see how Reggie’s story coincides with Portia’s.  It was great to see how Reggie viewed the tense relationship she has with her twin sister.  I’m glad they resolved their issues.

The reason why I couldn’t give it five stars was because the author didn’t complete the story of them building the escape room for the anime conference. The ending felt rush and Reggie’s wall around her heart didn’t completely drop in my opinion which could have sold the love story more.

I’m loving this series and can’t wait to get to the next book.
