Review ❤️ More Than Anything by Natasha Anders

June 26, 2019

Two lovers strive to trade a grim past for a bright future in this story of bittersweet yearning.

Tina Jenson belongs to the same social stratum as Harris Chapman, but he’s out of her league—at least that’s what she thinks before they jump in bed together. It’s the perfect night, but when she overhears crude, hurtful comments the next morning, she can’t get away fast enough.

Ten years later, Tina’s life is a mess. That night with Harris didn’t just hurt her feelings; it started a cascade of disappointment and heartbreak. Every time she bumps into Harris, her heart twists inside out. She still wants him, but she’s harboring a painful secret from their night together that she’s not ready to reveal.

Crossed signals, high-society whispers, and shame have kept Tina and Harris apart for years, but deep down, they’re hungry for each other and eager to write their own rules. Can they let go of the past and find their way back to each other, or are the barriers between them too high and too strong?

Tina has always been the chunky girl. She is living her dream when one night she falls in bed with Harris and shares all of her first with him. She is hurt when she discovers it was all a drunken bet. Later she finds herself alone and pregnant. She leaves to have the baby but the child does not survive which scars Tina.

Years later, Tina is struggling in her career and her social life. Her best friend (Libby) finds herself pregnant with Harris’s twin, Greyson. Libby and Greyson have a disagreement which causes Libby to leave. Tina offers them a place to stay but it brings up horrible memories and triggers for Tina.

There is so much to say about Libby’s story but I won’t go into that. The whole novel read as a soap opera and it could have been so much more. I normally enjoy books by Ms. Anders but this pushed me too far.

Tina had issues that she just couldn’t work out for the entire story. I don’t like a self-loathing female. I understand she had issues with her weight but she kept harping on it too much. I can totally sympathize with her but I wanted her to move past it. Tina doesn’t have sex for ten years after the incident and she makes all of these terrible decisions because she is still traumatized. I wanted to root for her but I couldn’t even muster up emotions for her which is just sad.

Harris is ready to move forward with Tina. He acknowledges his mistakes from their past. He works hard on making things right. I like that he gives Tina enough space and time to deal with everything. He wants her to be open, happy and loving again.

I did become engaged in Libby and Greyson’s story. I’m curious as to how it will all play out with them. I’m hoping they get a story and knock it out of the park.
