Review ❤️ People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

May 12, 2021

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read, a sparkling new novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.
Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.
Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

I was so excited to read this book. After reading Beach Read last year, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this one. It did not disappoint at all. In fact, it really surpassed all of my expectations. There are not a lot of authors who can squeeze five stars out of me, let alone, get that from me twice in a row! I’m telling you right now that this author is on my must read, must buy list!

Poppy and Alex are best friends who couldn’t be more different. In fact, on paper they don’t make sense but somehow they click. Every year, Poppy forces them to take a vacation together. Two years ago, something occurred on the trip that causes their friendship to end. Desperate to regain her friendship, Poppy invites Alex on another vacation to make a last attempt to mend things.

There is truly something so magical and truly deliciously romantic about her books. I love the slow burn of it. I never thought I would say that but it is true. The author carefully crafted Poppy and Alex’s story in a way that held the romantic suspense in the air leaving me craving for them to do something and I do mean anything.

I love the characters both separately and together. Poppy is such an amazing female lead. She is so in your face and the wild child. She lives her life to the fullest or so she thinks. She is fun and quirky. Alex is serious and subdued. His dry humor meshes so well with Poppy’s bold and brash banter. The dialogue is so hilarious.

Then there are the sparks. As we (the readers) get to see how Alex and Poppy got to the present day, you can feel the tension from both of them. I couldn’t wait for them to take a leap of faith together. They are just perfect for one another. This is one of the best friends to lovers story that I’ve read.

At the end, I became emotionally as Poppy puts it all on the line. OMG! The feels! I love when an author can just give you all of the feels and leaving you wanting more. I finish this story with a serious book hangover.

I recommend this for romance fans across the board.
